Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog are a real act from my childhood.

these were before phoenix nights...he did a series of something like 'That Peter Kay thing'... Different themes like the ice cream one, bingo, arena steward. He also did a motorway services one, for comedy lab. I think i've mentioned before, but theres a brilliant series of his 'Car share' with Sian Gibson as his car share person. First half of each episode is usually the drive into work....the second half is the drive home. There are a few exceptions, one where they skive off for the day...Its a reaaly brilliant series. Loads of music on the car radio 'Forever FM' , loads of funny banter. I think you said it was blocked, but hopefully there is some way..There are compilations of it as well...outtakes and things.

From memory, the directors cut for the Bingo scene, they asked the audience about George Clooney 😆

This Peter Kay review I have not seen before - it's very British with the subtlety of all the scenes - not full on stomach hurting but very British humor - did I say that already

You need to do Johnny Vegas on The Last Leg. You will both fall off your chairs 🤣🤣🤣

This video you watched is a collection of all the characters, but each episode (6 or 8 I think, Idk) was about one of them, the Ice cream man cometh, Leonard de Tomkinson the paper boy, Park Avenue (in which the Phoenix Club and Brian Potter were first seen briefly). This came first by a few years and was a way of introducing potential ideas that could be fleshed out if good enough, then Phoenix Nights came later as Peter Kay expanded on those snippets of Brian.

Park Avenue is SPOT ON! When the kids were little we used to go on holidays to Haven resorts, and the musical acts were always _EXACTLY_ like that! 😂

Yeah, it's totally accurate. I've done sound for hundreds of live shows, he nails it :)

@pigknickers2975 On a similar subject, a mate of mine used to be a cabaret singer - he broke his wrist at one point so I went with him for a few weeks as a 'roadie'. He had some truly, truly awful gigs. Including one up in the ATTIC of a working men's club in the Rhondda Valley (his agent was an absolute c*nt!) where we were "shushed" for being too loud bringing the gear in while the old dears were in the middle of their £5.50 jackpot bingo game. But the best one for me was when he was booked into a restaurant out in the country on an 'A' road (for Americans and Canadians, that's a crap restaurant next to a remote highway in the middle of nowhere). To this day nobody knows why (I've just told you about his agent!). People were just eating food and minding their own business, and all of a sudden this loud intro music starts and a cheesy guy goes, _"Wahaay!"_ Everyone turned to look, appalled at this uninvited interruption to their serene evening. _"My name is G, and I'm your act for tonight!"_ More puzzled looks as people turn to each other and go; _"Act? What act? I thought we were just having food. I didn't book a singer..."_ To which he responded with a line that left me creased up behind the speakers while I was pretending I wasn't with him... _"It's alright. Don't freak out just yet. Let your chips go down first..!"_ Credit where it's due, though. By the end of the night he had everybody - who hadn't planned that sort of evening at all - up on their feet and shouting for more! He ended up doing an hour longer than he was booked for. And didn't get paid for it (see earlier references to his agent)!

@@ramsey6681 Haha! I am reminded of a gig I did where we drove for nearly two hours to the venue to discover a social club that had been stuck in the 70s since the 70s. (Guess what - agent was also a wanker!). We had to work around the meat raffle which was sending the elderly crowd into a frenzy. Still we won the room over in the end but there is nothing like the fun of this life for a bit. My dad used to play the working mens clubs too which is why I love things like Phoenix Nights so much.

@@pigknickers2975 I miss the old social clubs. They're rapidly dying out, but there's one still clinging on about 200 yards from my house! If you walk past at about 10 o'clock on a Friday or Saturday you'll hear some old boy giving it, _"I did it my waaaaaay!"_ Or if it's a particularly risqué divorced middle-aged female artiste it'll be, _"Go on now go! Walk out the door! Don't turn around now, 'cos you're not welcome any more..."_ Phoenix Nights got the whole thing in a nutshell! The clueless manager who thinks he's a big-time showbiz impressario, the crap DJ who thinks he's a star, the disinterested bar staff who couldn't care less... Absolutely brilliantly observed comedy on every level.
