One drawback with a 3 line kite is that there is no "true control" of direction with the 3rd line. In strong wind or gusty winds, after recovery/relaunch the kite could go straight into the power eye of the wind. So, avoid strong winds or get a 4 line kite.

If you gently pull on the 3rd line it allows it to reverse launch but it will still turn if you put pressure on either of the outer lines. If you fully pull the back line then you are right it will be less controlable.
