Wow, that's incredible. I was briefly concerned when you said, "Throughout the rest of his life, Peter continued..." I thought you were about to recount details of an untimely death. I'm relieved to know he's still alive and playing 👍

lol I probably should have worded that differently.

Excellent support from the diaphragm for such a small young man at the beginning of this. The other thing I noticed - his last words about feeling more comfortable standing in front than sitting in the orchestra - face it, the really good trombone parts in symphonies are very rare. More high quality music needs to be written for the modern player.
@brendaanna2072 жыл бұрын
Also, playing your solo and having it done has got to be more comfortable than waiting through 123 measures of rest to play your big moment.
@MrMWPeach2 жыл бұрын
Please explain how you think a person supports from the diaphragm? I'm not convinced it's what is going on...
@brucekuehn40312 жыл бұрын
@@MrMWPeach If you watch such a skinny little fellow at 2:15 and then hear that beautiful, full sound - how does he do it? Breathing has been much discussed and you can study old clips of Arnold Jacobs or some of the new young guys, but efficient air movement is required.
@MrMWPeach2 жыл бұрын
@@brucekuehn4031 I've no plan to get into a debate here but I will say Mr Jacobs would never say "Support from the diaphragm". He may have said Peter Moore had a "Short bow" at that age, so needed to replenish frequently. What we likely can agree on is that Peter Moore plays wonderfully then and now. He also used his little capacity really effectively back then.
@brucekuehn40312 жыл бұрын
@@MrMWPeach I agree! Young kids often have a “thin” sound. I know I did! Charlie Vernon has been an avid swimmer - great for air. Lots of good stuff on YT for air support for singers as well as brass players.

I remember seeing Peter play in a brass band contest in the championship section. His feet did not touch the floor when sat on his chair. He was the best trombonist on the day and already far better than most top section players would ever be. Fabulous talent.

What an exceptional talent. You can see that by the age of 12, he was almost the complete player. His prodigious skill was clear and he is destined to be a professional musician.

Nice clips - thanks for making the video. Peter’s teacher at Cheetham’s, Phil Goodwin, looks more like David Hasselhoff - I don’t think your picture is correct!

You have the wrong Phil Goodwin. The one in your photograph is a conductor and Eb tuba player with Black Dyke, not the trombone player Phil Goodwin.
