My parents were committed Daily Telegraph readers for decades (my father read it on the day he died). Both totally swallowed the DT line that man-made climate change was a hoax: they totally trusted what the DT journalists were telling them, even though it flied in the face of what the scientistific experts were saying. One of those journalists - talented writers, but not willing to do the least research into what they were writing about - was none other than a certain Boris Johnson. He, of course, cut his journalistic teeth back in the early 1990s by reporting on the European Community making up stories that would titillate the public but were pure make-believe: he went on to use the same technique to sway the British public to vote "Leave" in 2016. What a legacy. What a grotesque disservice to Britain and the British public, but also what a disaster for the planet and all who live in it.

Peter Oborne is a conservative in outlook...but that doesn't stop him from wanting truth in journalism or bringing truth to power. He outlines perfectly the problem with newspapers in Britain today, they are not a voice for truth, instead they are a trumpet for the power of media barons and their oligarch pals to maintain the concentration of wealth and influence with the 1%.

Am a huge fan of Channel 4 News, but am surprised they didn't fact check the image they show of the Daily Telegraph building, which is of the Daily Telegraph New Zealand (no relation to that published in the United Kingdom). But, otherwise, they're doing a great job in trying to promote the traditional values of journalism and hats off too to Peter Oborne for having the guts to stand up for them.

i read the Telegraph for various reasons - to be entertained by the clownishness of their writers, the venom of their opinions and for the recipes of Diana Henry. But it's not a serious newspaper anymore.
