Finally! Someone with the richness and gusto that this aria richly deserves. This is not an aria for just anyone to sing. It takes a special voice to sing it properly and with Peter Rose we have such a voice !!! :-)

Having attended a number of performances of Semele at The Royal Opera House in London, with Peter Rose singing Somnus, I can say that those live performances were vastly superior to this recording, wonderful though it is to hear him sing it again .... and again!

Who's the clever pillock who claimed Mr Rose was reaaaaal flat at 4.22? What a bloody laugh! If that's singing flat, I'd pay good money to hear it! What an ending, though; I thought that only the Don Cossacks could do that - on the inbreath!

Well Colin Gantiglew, he actually seems to descend from A to G at the end of the tone - the big vibrato makes it a little unclear. But it's possibly deliberate as ... artistic freedom. I just checked the score, and it's not written, but I don't mind. By the way, he doesn't sing on the inbreath, if that's what you mean! He takes a deep breath before the last note. But something else: According to the score the aria shouldn't end there! What happened to the da capo al fine?
