I saw the concert in Sydney. It was at the old Sydney stadium basic tin shed. I was 13 in 1968. Vox amps and red suits. Awesome musicians. My first concert. Ears rang for days.

Mr Peter Tork, torquing it out on Pleasant Valley Sunday and doing a bad-ass job! 🤩 Loved him. Loved the Monkees music, and loved the tv show. Glad I grew up in the right time to have been able to have watched it. It was silly but wonderful. God bless you, Pete. Surely you're entertaining the angels now. 💐🙏🏽❤️

We fail to appreciate that The Monkees had at least two good musicians in the band; Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork. They may have been a created pop group, but they had some fine song writers writing for them. Pleasant Valley Sunday, a Carol King song, is as good a song to come out of the West Coast as any songs of that era.

If they were so good why did they pay the Wrecking Crew to cover their talentless asses ?
@magneto79305 жыл бұрын
@@Snakefinger1000 You'll have to take that up with Don Kirshner. If you knew the history of the Monkees then you would know the answer to that question. They played on their third album and beyond. They did not play on their first two albums because they were hired as actors and the music was already being recorded by professional musicians waiting for them to come in and record their vocals. That was the concept, they were to portray a "fictitious" band on television, not perform as a "real" band.

No surprise here. Peter Tork could play a multitude of instruments. And play them well. Although the least powerful singing voice out of the four. He could hold his own with anyone. @jhandle4196 Жыл бұрын
He wasn't so much originally. Mike Nesmith (who wrote that signature riff to Carole King's tune which she liked so much she incorporated it) was the only pro when the band was formed, and while "the wrecking crew" played many of the parts on the original recording, the boys insisted on learning so they could play the songs themselves so they could perform live like a real rock band. Jimi Hendrix was the opening act for 7 of their concerts, but that's another story.
@RichardCrews Жыл бұрын
@@jhandle4196 Micky was playing guitar in a band before he auditioned for the show. He played "Johnny B. Goode" for the producers and then they cast him as a drummer because they "had enough guitarists already." He did learn the drums from scratch, but he could play the guitar very well.

Pat Brennan Are you serious? In 1978 while at University Peter played. The venue might have had 60 people in attendance. Which was capacity . My memory was that he was not very good. Not terrible, but it was clear that he couldn't make any real money in Los Angeles performing. Still I found it interesting. Of course I've since that time seen Monkees reunion crap a couple of times. As much as people may dislike Don Kirshner, it is to me undeniable that it was him who created the success not the four boys.

Peter never really got the recognition he deserved. He was possibly the most accomplished musician of the group (am pretty sure Michael would agree to this), but he was happy being the goof. It was just what he did. Steven Stills told him to go try out for this gig as a stupid TV version of the Beatles because he, Steven, didn't make the cut, probably due to bad teeth. Check out the screening interviews of the guys. It's no wonder it worked.
