Really great trick. One thing though. She shouldn't be given the option to trade unless she's looking through the painting or it contradicts the narrative. Unless it's supposed to have tranferred x ray vision to her.

If she said she did want to trade he would have held the painting back over her eyes to confirm I'm sure. Regardless her simple presence in the trick ruins it for me because for 1 how can you "see through envelopes" and not be shocked by it, and for 2 if you actually can't see through the envelopes and are guessing why aren't you acting confused or saying you can't see through?

Normally, yes. But on Fool Us the magicians often do that as misdirection to put Penn & Teller down the wrong path. Remember, P&T only get one guess, several people have won, NOT by doing a trick that they can't figure out but by providing them with clues that make them think it is more likely to be done by one way than a second one that they would have said. It is actually the only thing I don't like about the show is when they win like that. I'm genuinely more entertained when P&T have no idea how they do it and not by the magician winning on a technicality.

The envelopes all have green inside. So no matter how they are placed, the green one will always be right. The red one was swapped under the table. The ones that Peter opens himself are slight of hand. He doesn't really take something out of the envelopes, he is already holding the right cloth inside his hand before opening. Those he gets previously. I think: one from the table and one at 5:17. One hand will simultaneously hold the envelope and the extra cloth. The extra cloth is also packaged tight, so that he can make the illusion of it coming out of the envelope.

@@sanderschat lol I'm not a magician and there's not one single move I didn't caught him doing, you can even see him placing his hands in his pocket, the right one sitting there for quite a while, and then just the obvious palming and covering his hand the whole time after that. Yeah I couldn't do it, it requires years of practise, but its a pretty easy trick and if I can spot all the trades he did, any magician can see how the trick is done fairly easy.
@Fatvod
@Fatvod 3 жыл бұрын
@@vinhix Not palming, he's using thumb tips. You notice each time he tears open the envelope he jams his right thumb inside, then he squeezes the outside of the envelope to take off the thumb tip and then reaches in to take out the scarf. He's really good at hiding the thumb tip during his movements but there's a few spots that if you pause you can see it. That's also why Penn gave the code word "tip of our tongue" he's referencing a thumb tip.

** Spoiler Alert** (Not for the faint hearted- I mean you, Serena) What I hope Penn would say: All envelopes in beginning had green. 1st one was an obvious change to red before handing over to Alison. Then green handed to Alison. Other 2 envelopes in control with magician. Puts hands in pockets/under table both times, saves up yellow and blue cloth in fake thumb/fingers etc. And that’s the trick. What Penn actually says: Subtle.. Sherlock Homes...mystery.. Me: huh?
@joeskis

There's gotta be a way to do it without the obvious switch and the guest holds all the envelopes. The magician hands the envelops in a particular direction. "hold right here. Now tear the bottom off with your other hand." the orientation of the envelops determines what pocket gets opened and it's contents spilt.

When does he load the yellow cloth into his hands
@GSUShane
@GSUShane 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ahmed-vs1ui It is really easy to palm the scrunched up yellow. He is either getting it from behind the little plaque with the eyes on it, or he's pulling it into his hands when he sticks his right thumb underneath the table at approximate 4:35.
@USAlien234
@USAlien234 3 жыл бұрын
He should've hide the red envelope behind the eyes instead of reaching under the table for so long. Tat may have been misdirection, but still he never shows the back of the eyes and it would have been a clean and easy swap.
@Fatvod
@Fatvod 3 жыл бұрын
Not palming, he's using thumb tips.

@@Fatvod This is the corerct answer. at 5:06 he add the tip in his pocket, and at 5:09 for a few frame you can see the thumb is almost as long as the other finder when he raise his hand, showing the tip,

Two things :- 1. He took the red envelope from behind the table 2. He made the choices who will tear which envelope...quite possible that the envelope he tore had multiple clothes in it
@JIKitty
@JIKitty 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think that would work. I think the envelopes all have green inside.

Possibly, but that doesn’t explain anything if we can’t see him switching at least one more - oh, wait: He only ever needs to switch one: Alyson only opens two. Say they’re both yellow. The first thing that immediately came to mind when you held up the eye panel to compare them to her’s you were switching out a packet to give her the right color. Then I think you intentionally chose which packet to let her open and which one you would open so you could force the right colors. Just a hunch though.

I enjoy the audience participation too, but I'm perplexed by this trick. Could it have worked with any random member of the audience or was Alyson "in on it" in some way? I can't work out what it is that she "saw" that made her choose particular colours... but perhaps it's best to not know. I'll have to watch this a couple more times, because I'm a bit mystified by what actually happened. Good trick!
