My Dad sang this to me when I was a baby, it was the only song that would settle me. He recorded himself singing this, so when he was at work, I would still settle down to sleep. 48 years later, I sing this to my Grandson. When I first sang this to him, a huge smile came across his little face. It makes me feel like my Dad is here looking over his first Great Grandson.

This was my lullaby song too in 1962-63 and my mother left all the words written out for my dad to sing to me when she went to the hospital to have my sister in February of 1964. I was able to bring my son to a Peter Yarrow concert many years later to hear him sing this precious song. It speaks to something very deep in me because of those early days.

One fine day it happened, Puff woke from a dream He thought he heard a familiar voice and Jackie’s laugh it seemed He looked around his cavern and over by the door Stood a little boy with a piece of string and smile he’d seen before “Hello My name is Billy, my dad told me your name He said I’d find you in the cave along the cherry lane“ Puff, that mighty dragon smiled in his joy He’d never be alone again for this was Jackie’s boy CHORUS

I actually heard that there was another verse to this song, that Lenny wrote in his poem, but it was not used in the song. It was very similar to your verse, stating that a child, I think a girl, came to see Puff, and might also have been Jackie's daughter. Do u know anything about that?

You were always my hero. The very first song I could remember, was puff the magic dragon at age 1. I'm high functioning autistic. My childhood was very hard - I was beaten and rsoed and abused by my father and eventually ended up in a special home. I thought puff was real. Today, I still choose to believe in Puff. And I believe in you and all the wonderful childhood memories you offered me. I'm forever grateful. Thank you to You and Puff.

I had always wished like millions of us..... that 'PP & M' had gone back and added a very happy ending to the original song & lyrics....I had read in past that after it's original release in the 60's that due to the many requests they received to add a happy ending was talked about by them....yet it never happened....and still today it's all part of the lore of this terrific song. I was a young teen male when this was a hit song and kind of thought it was for only younger kids at that time, but for years now I find myself now at age of 70 really liking & appreciating the song....they say some of as we get older that we kind of become like kids again and I guess I am one of them....and I love it! Got to go....Puff roared out my name too .....to go sailing with Jackie & Puff in the land of Honalee! 😊

I had the incredible privilege to see P, P & M twice. I have never been so moved at a concert as when they stopped playing, bowed their heads and let the audience sing to them. A guitar player myself I was never satisfied with the song as recorded so I wrote a new ending verse wherein Puff is drawn out of his cave by the sound of a girl singing on the shore and sails away again with a ribbon tied around his neck. I am pleased to know from Yarrow himself I was on the right track.

Now so much older, with so many loved ones gone, I plan to have this playing when my own life fades away. I will feel comfortable and safe through the cross over. Sweet Peter, I can't count how many times this song has given me joy. First, I was a child, imagining ships, dragons, ceilings (I didn't yet know about sealing wax). As a teen, I believed deeply in the marijuana concept. Later, I was a young adult, imagining my childhood. Then I became a mom and needed to be certain that my daughter knew the wonder of this song - of places of dreams that exist as long as we believe in them. I took her to see you, and Paul, and Mary. I'm forever grateful that she had that opportunity. There are so many other songs as well. Please know that I am singing them ALL with you, every time, forever. Your music is my music, my life, my family, my heartbeat. Most especially now, when we struggle with the fear of illness that could take anyone, the continuity of these songs matters so very, very much. Please never stop singing and never stop thinking that we are all here singing with you. I love you as I love my family. Thank you forever.

I really want to know what type of mentally deficient person could possibly "Not like" this video. (Nine dislikes as of today). This is a classic piece of American culture. Probably everyone who grew up in this country, and probably most of the world, (except the 9 mentally deficient "not like" voters) listened to this song a child. To hear this Peter Yarrow explain it, and sing it, so eloquently, and with such charm, is a gift to everyone.

I remember when I was a little kid...watching this with my mom and grandma....it was a time of magical innocence free from worry ...instead of a world of full of fear and suffering...it was just magical innocence....I remember being safe with my mom and grandma...I remember this song...closing my eyes and drifting off to the magic land of Honahlee...curled up safe between my mom and granny on the couch when it was still Peter Paul and Marry....oh how I miss those days...days of feeling safe, loved, protected from the big scary world outside of my tiny corner....but now I'm almost 40 ....one more year...going bald, turning grey...been through a lot of bad scary stuff...at some point I said fare thee well to my innocence....then my grandma....my mom is still here but isn't a spring chicken anymore...she put herself in an assisted living place and now the roles have changed....I have to be the one to keep her safe, to take away the fear....I don't know how to either...at my age I should of been able to support myself and her, but through bad choices I killed that last bit of innocence...now I'm face to face with the Scarry world...with homelessness, fear, death....I see so many ppl...who in my heart will always be the innocent kids/ friends I grew up with...my grandma lived on in my heart..all that's left out of my family is my mom so if she goes before me then I will be alone....wishing that big ole good dragon puff would be around to protect this slowly aging man...I do have a higher power that will never allow me to be truly alone, but I won't preach here...just know people...no matter your beliefs...there is someone out there who loves you ...we'll make that more than one...I try to love everyone and I firmly believe Jesus is real and loves everyone too, but like I said..I won't preach....just in mourning tonight over the loss of my own innocence and of the prospect of today's youth one-day losing their own innocence...even though it happens...hang onto that sense of magic...never let it it go.

This song is making me cry right now as I sweep my floor. Maybe it’s connecting me to my inner child. My mom would sing this to me often before her schizophrenia took over.

Hi Peter, Many years ago at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado you, Paul, and Mary played there. I was working at Red Rocks with my sister, and Mother with their catering business. As I checked on some baked potatoes I burned my fingers and I believe Peter--pretty tall? Well, he was walking by then with his guitar warming up just as I said, "Ouch!" You know that hot potato. Then he began singing, "Le potato is hot, very hot," strumming his guitar walking down the hallway. I'd seen you all 14 years earlier in '65 at Constitution Hall in Washington, and was looking forward to working your show that day at Red Rocks. But, to have one of you all sing even a line in a warm-up song was pretty damn COOL. Later I went on, and backed up the Mississippi Bluesman R.L. Burnside for a dozen, or more years on harp, and guitar, and there were many stories during that time of my life. But, the one with Paul singing that line to me, and smiling my direction before you all went onstage is about the best story yet! You all sounded great that night. Thanks for the memories. I feel very blessed that I was alive when Peter,Paul, and Mary were playing, singing the stories of all of our lives. Thanks for being there. Jon Beckley Morris
