@Alex_Shishkin_1962 Жыл бұрын
Re: the part that deals with war in Ukraine. I'd say that Zeihan over-emphasizes the theory of Russia seeking some kind of 'defensible frontier'. From historical documents, Russian/Soviet expansions of the past were driven mostly by an easily recognizable 'every land grab adds value to the empire' theory of imperial governance which was pretty much universal across the world until 19th Century. And current Russian leadership is no exception: they are illiterate in the field of modern tech, and still believe more land and more people to be the only and ultimate measure of greatness. Also, I'd discount at least a little bit Zeihan's demographic conclusions: Russian demography does mean their population will be dwindling for the foreseeable future, but Russians becoming extinct is not in the cards any time soon. Other than this, yes, what he has said is valid, IMO.
@lucasgrey9794
@lucasgrey9794 Жыл бұрын
@@Alex_Shishkin_1962 Nothing Zeihan says is valid. He thinks Mao did One Child Policy. Mao died years before it was developed. Russia doesn't want the Russian population in Donbass to be ethnically cleansed in the manner that the Serbian population of Kosovo was.
@Alex_Shishkin_1962
@Alex_Shishkin_1962 Жыл бұрын
@@lucasgrey9794 Yawn. Pull another one. Russian population in Donbass was never in any danger of being ethnically cleansed. This sob story is, in its entirety, Russian propaganda. Most of Eastern Ukraine outside of Donbass has similar percentages of ethnic Russians living there, and nowhere under Ukrainian control has anything remotely resembling ethnic cleansing taken place. In fact, ethnic Russians are fighting in Ukrainian military now and have been, since the previous Russian land grab in 2014. And not just draftees, either: they are plentiful among volunteers, as well. P.S. Chinese policy of limiting the birth rate started under Mao. Yes, while he was alive it was a limit of 2 kids per family, and an encouragement to marry later in life, but he clearly was the person who got the ball rolling. So even here you don't really know what you are talking about.

What this indicates to me is that people who listen to this propaganda have a very low level of knowledge about the topics he talks about. Everything with you Americans is strategy; at the receiving end there's death and destruction, refugee crisis as a result. The likes of Peter Zaihan push for that sentiment. The US will push, a nuclear catastrophe will ensure and the human race, as we know it will be extinct. You and I included.

Assuming the need to pull troops also implies expectations that Russia will invade Poland etc. Leaving behind arsenal is also confusing if following the narrative that we are supplying ammunition without ground support so while the practical delivery of clear-minded and useful information is a relief, it has holes. The delivery of "hope" escapes pragmatism when information is skimmed over as such. Otherwise, great talk but with BRI and Pakistan etc in the region, a power vacuum is certainly to our advantage, how remains to be seen and would like to better understand.

Love that he points out that leaving Afghanistan was really a move so we could defend Ukraine, and noted it was on some level going to go badly. It came across to me as a situation where we had to get out and did not have the time to do it perfectly. We ran out of time. When Russia built up around Ukraine I was close to certain they were going in because of this. I also appreciate that he notes the truth that Russia will not quit, and peace with them will only last until Russia rebuilds to invade more. Zeihan lives in Reality.

The passage where Peter Zeihan "predicted the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the very month in his book the Accidental Superpower" states that Russia will make a move before 2020, not in February of 2022. So, 1. He was wrong. 2. If you want to say he still predicted it happening, many did after Crimea, just ask Ukrainans or east Europeans, many were waiting for it to happen. I wish he corrected the podcaster about the "down to the specific month" comment, that was not a good look.

Almost everything Peter Zeihan says is false. From the comments I have read many people believe what Peter Zeihan says. What this indicates to me is that people who listen to this propaganda have a very low level of knowledge about the topics he talks about. Another conclusion I can make since what he says in many cases is the opposite of reality is that he is some how being paid by the u.s. government or the military industrial complex. If your not seeing thr fake narrative that he is advocating then you are not knowledgeable enough on these topics.

The real categories of AI are Narrow and General. Narrow AI is an algorithm that can be trained to solve one problem intelligently. This is fairly well developed today and is seen in image recognition, stock trading, automated driving, AI art, ChatGPT etc. General AI is a human like intelligence and that’s about 20 years away.
