Can’t believe I messed up the name of my own course, which I’ve been selling for 1.5 years. 😂 It’s Organize Your Life with Things 3, over at peterakkies.net/courses/things-3 (My OmniFocus course is called Get Stuff Done with OmniFocus 3, so that’s probably why. That’s over at peterakkies.net/courses/omnifocus-3)

So glad I moved over to Things 3 from OmniFocus. It's like a breath of fresh air and a big part of that is your influence. Thank you!

Sunday is my weekly review day too. Once you start doing the reviews, it becomes a habit and I really like the idea of going into Monday knowing what I propose to do and achieve.

Hi Peter, I notice there are no long-term / big-picture-related items on your Weekly Review checklist... such as referring to your big goals, dashboards, etc. Do you review those in your Weekly Review, or...?

Great video, Peter! I’ve been following your weekly review cheat sheet ever since enrolling in your Things course. When do you incorporate a calendar review?

Peter, how long does it take you, on average, to do a review like this?

Very helpful! Peter, you could also do this as a task with check items, because in that case the "subtasks" don't have a due date. Or is it better to always handle it as a project? Btw, I like your Things 3 videos ;) Did you also make one on how to use Things with shortcuts?

Thanks! You could definitely make your weekly review a task with checklist items. Doesn’t need to be a whole project.

Great job, Peter. Question - When my Weekly Review Project pops up on Sunday, as I go down the list of my tasks and sub tasks, do I check them off? Would that make them disappear from the project list and not show up the following Sunday? Or would they disappear just on that Sunday and then the Weekly Review Project would show up again the following Sunday in full? Thanks

If you make it a repeating project, Things generates a new “instance” of the project each week. So yes, you can check off the tasks, and complete the project, and a new one will be generated a week later. There’s a master copy that you can also modify-you can find it in the Upcoming view, for example.

Thank you for making this clear and easy. My weekly review has turned into more of a bi-monthly review 🙈 but I’ve never had it set up in Things so I will try this and see if it helps create a new habit. Have you explored using the time blocking method along with Things 3?
@PeterAkkies
@PeterAkkies 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you found it useful, Kelly. Time blocking isn’t the right choice for me at this point, but it could be for you (or for me later).

Great video, curious why you did this as a project versus a task with sub task? That seems like it would be a bit cleaner and easier to replicate.
@PeterAkkies

The main reason is that I have a few notes and subtasks (“checklist” items in Things parlance) in some of my weekly review steps. Either way is totally fine though.

Greetings. Is it possible to see all tasks from Monday to Friday - Monday and Friday included - on a Monday morning. Things 3, perhaps for GTD reasons, separates Today from the rest of the week but for those who might like doing weekly reviews on Monday mornings, this creates a problem. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
@PeterAkkies
@PeterAkkies 8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately not. There is on view in Things that lets you see just that and you cannot create custom views in Things. I recommend combining the Today view with the Upcoming view.
@accentontheoff
@accentontheoff 8 ай бұрын
That's a pretty decent solution actually. Open two windows, one on the Today view + one on the Upcoming view. Thanks! @@PeterAkkies

I know you said you don't use deadlines for the weekly reviews and that they should only be used for "deadlines". However, I still like to use deadlines for things like a weekly reviews because it sort of acts like a buffer for tasks or projects. For the weekly review example, instead of it popping up as a task that I need to get done today, It will pop up and say I need to do the task, but I have two days to complete it (if I set a 2-day heads up). So, if I wanted to do my weekly review on Sundays, I would have it pop up on Fridays and now I have two days to do it. And it doesn't show up in red the first time you see it.

If that works for you, Casey, run with it!

@@PeterAkkies Thanks, Peter. Also, (this is unrelated) but I have a specific use for the Anytime tasks. Many times we are waiting for other people to do things or to get back with us. What I do is make a new task called "Wait for Jim to file the report". Then I tag that task as "waiting" and then drop it in the Anytime section. Then I periodically check the waiting tags to see all the things I am waiting on from others. Then, if I get and update from someone, I open up that waiting task a put a time stamp with the update in the notes section in descending order. Wondering if you did something similar. Have a wonderful day ;)
