Potato hauling is what i have been doing for the past 21 years, back and forth to Colorado to NC, the rate now is 12.00 on a hundred and getting ready to go up to cover fuel cost. I pull with a 389 and a 53 foot utility, empty weight 36000 full of fuel with snow chains, just started pulling out of Florida and will be working my way north as they come out of the ground. People have to eat, job security. Enjoy your videos.

Baby blue KENNY is a W 900 long hood A model . Probably a70's or early 80's - got a Cat & lots of them had a pair of sticks . 2 transmissions - main box 5 or 6 w/ auxiliary 4 speed . About as common as a unicorn these days . Most " steering wheel holders look in my truck & say "WHY does it have 2 gear shifters " UGH 😕

One of these days, would you be willing to explain the process of loading and unloading potatoes to a blind person? We live not 3 miles from the Simplot headquarters here in Boise. It has been very interesting listening to your videos.

The floor of the trailer is like a conveyer belt... AKA a big treadmill, and it tosses the potatoes out the back to unload them .

I ran taters for about a year here in Michigan with my 2012 W900 550 Cummins 18 speed. Three locations throughout the state to New Era chip company in Detroit. The first time on that dump lift surely gave me a pucker factor of 10. Great video Tim.

News Flash ! We grow taters in Hastings, Florida. They grow nothing but chip taters for Frito-lay. So we don't need those Yankee potatoes. We grow all the chips they can cook. There are 2 plants one in Jacksonville Florida it's been there since the 1940's. And a newer plant on U.S.1 in St. Augustine, FL. So it's 10 miles to Hastings , FL. From St. Augustine And 40 to Jacksonville. So the trucks can haul lots of taters and make 3 to 4 loads a day. Tell me you ever walked thru from start to finish on making lays chips ? We have. Don't forget about Idaho . They grow some damn nice potatoes also. Mostly for baking or freeze drying for instant.. Hasting Florida also grows cabbages . Which go all over the USA. ( We use to make our own sauerkraut ) Great stuff.!! You could also buy Peterbilt parts used including mirrors. My uncle use to own the Peterbilt dealership in Jacksonville till the factory made all the independent dealers sell to Rush.. I've drove them all, from transStar 2 - Ford 9000 - Freightliner - KW- Western Star - even the old round single cab 1960's Macks, - Mini wheeler dumps - and yes Peterbilts both cab over and conventional. I like the old glider kits. And build your own.. My sister in her 70's and still runs her freightliner up and down the east coast.. Always try and run from 1998 and before. That way you don't have to have that computer in your truck. Just Log Books .. Which I always kept.. The government is trying to kill the independent trucker by making all these new rules including CDL . Now there going after the Hot Shot independents ! What ever happened to the right to work laws. That includes driving any size truck .. We need to stop the so called professional politicians. No terms.longer than 3 years. This way their out before they can learn to screw the public.. Keep the wheels turning ! Also Tennessee Recappers make a nice semi tire ? And they ship for.free. As for people showing up at your house and business ? Well you should have never given out your address ? Put up a fence and a tall Gate with NO trespassing signs. As for the business ? Step off 6' from the side of the road and put up a fence ? On both sides . Just build some sliding gates . Then that should fix your issues ? Also install an alarm system. eBay sells them where if someone trips it the system will call your phone .. You make enough off you tube to buy a system. But since you don't want fans maybe you shot yourself.in the.foot.?? Personally I would.never drive to Tennessee to see anyone. Your highways are full of Crooked Cops who illegally seize tourist cash claiming their dealing drugs ! And they steal millions ! Who would.want.to.drive thru a state that steals peoples money ? That's right it easier to rip off honest people than to actually work for there money ? Who gets the money ? Yep the cops split it up between themselves. So Tennessee cops are just as bad as the mobs and cartels. Look at the NYPD they do the same. They steal dope to.resell and cash to keep. That's how a Tennessee cop makes 6 figure pay checks ! There no better than the dope dealers and cartels it's they have a badge .. That's why I drive around that worthless state ..

W900A finished in about 1981. W900B was the transition to rectangular headlights and a different bolt pattern for the front bumper. The light blue W900A in your video also has Freightliner FAS2 air ride under the rear that was transplanted into that truck probably because it was “born” with Reyco four spring rear suspension and rear diffs that won’t take the work of a later higher torque engine, or much over a 350 hp from that timeframe. Other than that, what do I know about trucks………………..

Porter greetings! 🇺🇸 The KW and FLD were so nice looking! 🤩 One of my brothers owned the FL with the integrated sleeper, but in a single axle version. One sweet looking rig. It even had a Cat in it! 🥰🤩😎 So you made it to Michigan quite quickly! 🧐 I pulled an old flatbed spread axle trailer years ago…with a single axle Ford C800. I loved the truck but hated the trailer! It didn’t have a lift axle, we drove it in tight city streets and it had been abused before we got it. Hauling agriculture can be hard but rewarding it seems. It sounds like you dead headed up there though. I’ve never heard of chopped reefers before. I’ve only experienced them being an odd length than most other trailers. I now own an older reefer that is I believe 49 foot long. It’s good not to put all your eggs in one basket. You have enough trucks that I’m sure are dedicated to certain accounts, but losing any of them could put a bind on things. I’m hearing a variety of things out there on a nationwide strike. I know they had one over in the UK, but that doesn’t mean we need to do one here. It needs to be better orchestrated if there is one. Well, I’m looking forward to seeing more of your trip. Be safe and enjoy the ride! 😎✌️

I don't get why everyone thinks they have to have an 18 speed. Sure, they have their place, like hauling super heavy oversize loads, but normally it's not necessary to have to split gears in the low side
@carlwilliams1570
@carlwilliams1570 2 жыл бұрын
True for most conditions a 13 is fine and almost everyone drives 18’s the same way. Either is better than a POS 10 speed. Pulling sticks out of the woods on some hilly backroads it’s nice to split 3rd to 4th on hills as an option. When moving equipment like track cutters you will split.

With older trucks you used to buy a truck and tell them what engine and transmission you wanted, you could have gotten CAT, CUMMINS, DETROIT in any truck, and then mack and Volvo have their own engine, but you could special order anything you want, now in the last 10-15 years manufacture don't have that freedom anymore, cat doesn't make engines for semis anymore, Detroit is owned by freightliner, and the up charge for Cummins in Volvo Mack freightliner is very expensive

I like a truck with a trolley brake Tim. The first truck I drove had a trolley brake and my boss yelled at me and said "Don't believe in that dam brake"

You put the trailer on a tipper when I work for the trash company here in Las Vegas I worked in the transfer department we pulled those East trailers aluminum we we're hauling trash up to the landfill we pulled 32 to 33 tons we grossed about a 105 thousand we put those trailers on tippers we would raise those trailers straight up in the air

@@mattlyle455 oh yeah I seen guys forget to unhook the truck from the trailer take the truck right up with the trailer when I see any must have got up about 20 25 feet going up and the truck broke loose from the trailer and fell down I was so glad the truck didn't turn twist up there because it landed right by the guy controlling the tipper which is the driver it was a brand new truck
