I wish this series was longer, and you had more time to reflect. But I understand the constraints.

Love the bit of goofiness at the end! Sorry about the pinky though. Interesting how certain activities and the moulding of a body to high rigor can cause peculiar ailments and strains. Also, the beer looks so good!

Hey which Trappist Cafe did you go happen to go in Orval?
@PeterBragiel4 жыл бұрын
Not sure, it's the one attached to the monastery/brewery.
@dampaul13Күн бұрын
A l'Ange Gardien is the cafe that sits a few hundred metres from the monastery/brewery, and the only place you can get Orval Vert. That beer alone is worth the trip.

Hi there! Thanks for making this series, *edit* Are you seriously comparing Chimay with Orval? 🤐 Auch !
@11thstalley965 жыл бұрын
Andreas Nys Agreed...as good as Chimay is, Orval is a singular beer unlike anything that I’ve ever had. I understand that the Vieux version is the same beer as the Jeune, just aged longer. I’ve only had the Orval Vieux that is available in the states, and I’m really looking looking forward to trying the the Vert and Jeune versions, of which I’ve heard a lot of good things.
@dampaul13Күн бұрын
@@11thstalley96 Sorry, if you know any of the following. I find it interesting. Orval is secondary fermented with a strain of brettanomyces, which, over time, gives Orval its unique profile. Brett is an aggressive yeast that has the ability to eat more sugars than other strains of yeast. As such, it continues to eat usually unfermentable sugars, drying out the beer, increasing the abv, increasing carbonation (hence the shape and thickness of the bottle), and developing those "brett" flavours that Orval is famous for. Orval Vert is draught only, lower abv, and more heavily dry hopped, and one of the greatest beers I've ever had. It is bright, fresh, clean, and hoppy, with none of those brett flavours having had time to develop. Yes, the only difference between the two bottled Orval is the age, which means you can do the same thing by comparing young and old bottles. The trouble is that by the time Orval lands in most countries outside of Europe, it's hard to find truly young examples and is already starting to show signs of age, though not in a bad way. There is lots of debate about what age is the best to drink Orval. Having tried bottles at the brewery that has only been released a few days earlier and older bottles up to and older than 10 years old, they all have something to offer. If you are planning on visiting the brewery, it's only open to the public for two days, Orval Brewery Open Days, usually held in mid-September. While the cafe is open year-round.

@spastischelastisch84825 жыл бұрын
? You've been going to the wrong bars vriendschap 😊 It's about 3,5-4eur for an Orval over here, If you want an Orval that has been aged for over 2+ years it'll cost you 5eur :)
