Very interesting system Peter! What kind of oil is used for lubrication? Engine oil or some specific type of oil?

Di Tr it's the engine oil, somehow it gets inside thorough the cam port. If something goes wrong with the one way check valve on the brake booster oil gets inside the brake booster and ruins it.

Hi Peter, I am having trouble with my brake vaccum pump as it leaks oil into the exhaust and burns and BMW have diagnosed it to be this problem. I am wondering if it is safe to purchase a used vaccum pump nd replace on my car or should I replace the seals on my own pump as a new one is too expensive.

Hi there Peter! I need an advice. I own a E46 318i with the same engine like in this video. I have issues with brakes, it's really weird. If I start the car in the morning, the brakes work as intended, after work when I start my journey back home I don't have brake assist, the first pedal is normal then it gets rock solid and car does not brake anymore, only if I apply considerable force on brake pedal. I have replaced the vacuum pump, and most importantly, the 2 orings between the pump and engine. But the problem did not go away, as well I tried changing the brake fluid, flushed it all, no improvement. What might cause the brake assist disappear? Thank you!

its for sure the brake power booster die black round thing in the video. but i guess u solved it? Ive had the sameproblem but my brake pedal was rock solid in the morning . After Vacuumpump change it dissappeared. DId u change your pump or just the Gaskets? Sometimes if u have knocking sound on the engine its related to the vacuum pump bro

Hi all, and hi Peter I’ve done some replacemnt of the both o-rings seals of the vacuum pump (BMW e90 330d). After sealing with the proper o-rings (corerct dimensions for sure, dedicated ones)) there were no leaks of the oil. BUT right after the replacement problems with braking occurred (hard pedal after braking 3 times). There’s some issue with the sub-pressure. What is funny (If I may use such word for this s**t) that after using the old o-rings, everything went back to the previous condition (leaking of the oil from the vacuum pump but normal braking). Can anybody give me any clue or hint? What can cause such strange condition? Thanks in advance…

@@Change-Maker depends on what car you are doing it. AUDI (for example) has the same pump and the maker decided to put everything in the back of the engine making it easier for you to grow a third arm then to do regular maintenance without pulling the motor out of the engine bay.

Hi peter, i drive a 2006 325i E90 with slightly over 100k mls, the car recently started shaking hysterically especially on standstill. In the morning when i start the motor vehicle, there is always a strong smell of burning substance and then smoke comes from under the engine. I have noticed that when i push the car hard, the same smoke comes about and thereby the engine begins to shake and rpm counter moves up and down hysterically. Today as i was driving and my aircondition on, suddenly, smoke came through the vents and my car was filled with fumes, sometimes the car will run fine for a couple of days and then the shaking will be back, kindly assist. I have changed all plugs, all coil packs, tuppet gasket cover (all parts from BMW dealership)

Hi Sir, BMW has great engine, but a lot of issue. I think that some pipe or hose is leaking. Maybe some plastic pipes.

Sounds for me like the vacuum pump leak, but due to rpm fluctuation Peters diagnose might be better

@@ignacymichal17 tell you what, I changed the oil and it went away, also the smoke was due to oil leaking from the tuppet cover gasket, all fixed and car is fine, cleaned the injectors, too.
