This is like a takeout double but only two-suited. I've been in so many situations where I could have used this, lul

Great video. As usual, good, clear instruction. After 1H-2H, or 1S-2S, is a 2NT overcall also showing 5-5 in the minors?

By agreement. Some people use 2NT as just two places to play over 1S-2S. Some use as natural and other use it for something else.

@@BridgeWithPete Thanks. This came up in a friendly game yesterday. I'll share your video with them and this comment.

Fantastic video. Also great that you explained the considerations and continuations of the convention (I learned a lot). The 2-suited bids (Michaels and Unusual) are still a bit confusing to me in some bidding sequences. Can you (or someone else) maybe help clarify the following situations: 1. After 2-level preempts, are michaels cue-bid and unusual on? And after 3-level preempts, is michaels on? 2. If opponents bid 1h-2h: Is the 3h Michaels? Is 2NT unusual? 3. If opponents bid 1c-1h: How do we show 5-5 in the remaining suits? 2c, 2h or 2NT? 4. If they bid 1s-2h: Is there a two-suited bid available? Thanks for any help

1. By partnership Agreement - there is a separate convention called leaping Michael's, which if you play this or not will change the meaning. Without discussion I would say yes over 2 lever preempts. Also yes over 3 level preempts. 2. Yes 3H is Michael's and 2NT is unusual 2NT even though there isn't a jump bid because if you think about HCP there is no need fore a natural 2NT when the opponents have 12+ opposite 6-9 3. Partnership agreement. My preference is to use their last naturally bid suit as Michael's but I have player all of them with different partners. 4. 2S, 2NT, and double would all be two suited there.

For the last example, how would I test for a Diamond slam if partner is holding both red suit?
@BridgeWithPete Жыл бұрын
2NT is a way to ask for partner's minor with an invitational+ hand.

Some people use Michael’s over a minor as not necessarily both majors - either of the two suit combinations not covered by unusual. I think that means spades and another. Do you think this is inferior?
@BridgeWithPete Жыл бұрын
Yes. The one rare hand where you just over call instead of being able to Michael's compared with the danger of uncertainty about a Major. I don't like that version.

If the bidding was 1Spade - Pass - 2 Spades - 3 Spades; would 3 Spades be a Michael's cuebid? thanks Pete

Also what would it show? This came up yesterday and was alerted as a Michael's cuebid, but it kinda feels wrong somehow.

ok so I've just listened to your video again, and because it's not the first for their side, it's not Michaels. I've answered my question I think :)
