When I was in the Army, I don't remember us having a stiffener. Of course, knowing us, our leadership would tell us what to keep and what to throw away. I probably had to ditch mine if my assault pack did indeed was issued with a stiffener.

There's a strap that goes around your waist and snaps together with a plastic buckle. But as far as attaching to an actual belt? You might want to use the bottom straps for that. There are bottom straps where you can attach a bottom pill-shaped pouch for extra storage. Use those to secure to a belt. Keep in mind to pack heavy items on top. Packing heavy items first will kill your back. I learned that the hard way on a march.

@@supercyberfunk Thanks so much! And I had the same experience when I took the pack on a weighted ruck hike and put all the heavy stuff on the bottom. Very uncomfortable.

Exactly. There is no version that comes stock without hte straps - any surplus bag you find without straps means they were cut out by someone
