My brother was addicted to heroin..He hid it from us for a long time, we had no idea what was going on..And then finally one day his wife told my mother about his addiction to heroin, it was a horrible day..My mother was so affected by the horrible news..She was so hurt 💔, Omg!! she was so so so hurt..💔 My mama wasn't a crier, but that day I will never, ever forget..She cried soooo hard that day til I was scared to death..I forget how long he was on it but finally he detoxed himself and got off of it..He had the longest track mark on his arm, that we didn't even know was there I wouldn't wish that evil 🐒 on my worst enemies back..He finally got off of it one day, we were sooooo happy, and grateful to God!! 👐🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

My boys parents used to buy him 1 pair of timbs a year, this dude would go to the school dance in them and the next day running a full court game in them. All loose but he didn’t care lol. I’m like bro go shovel snow or something lol you can’t just wear boots all year round. 98 degrees and he’s in basketball shorts and timbs heading to the beach. That stereotype around the NY area is true lol we wear timbs on any occasion. My legs was too skinny so i avoid boots, the ACGs was my shit though no cap. Comfortable too. Some all black ones all you need in the winter.

I can't blame Fran for Gary's downfall. However, I do wish that he would've found someone else and raised his son. I'm sure it isn't easy being the 1st to succeed. Sometimes when there's no blueprint, we tend to retreat to what everyone else is doing. According to the film, Gary didn't even fit in with the addicts. R.I.P to the original 3 😔

DeAndre McCullough, the main person this show/book was written after, went on to play in The Wire as Lamar. He had a very hard life and apparently he passed away some years ago 😢. He was very intelligent and had all the potential in the world. Unfortunately, he grew up in a world surrounded by chaos. Both parents being addicts. Himself turning into an addict and after years being off and on, passed away from an overdose

I grew up in New Orleans in the ‘60’s…..fairly tough neighborhood but not like the kids are faced with. We definitely weren’t wealthy. But thank God , my parents were always there for us, holding us accountable for when we did wrong, and trying to set an example of how to live a decent, honorable life with in your means. These kids today, with maybe their father dead, or in jail or just MIA, and their mother maybe in jail , hooked on drugs or working the corners or any combination of the above situations. They are being raised by tired, weary, impoverished grand parents or aunts and uncles. Again, thank You Lord, for my loving, stable parents.

The sadness of Fran at the resi rehab is something we are confronted with - there is so much need. Resi rehab may not have been right for her. It's not for everyone. Resi rehabs are often punitive in their attitude to slip ups and set backs. Many insist on people being 100% sober, which isn't everyone's end point. For anyone who has a drug problem they want to get help for, please, reach out to services. Yes, 8 weeks sounds like a lifetime, but there are other options - pharmacotherapy, psychosocial counselling, ambulatory detox, smart recovery - all evidenced based.

From The Wire to The Corner. I got on toThe Wire since my late 20s and The Corner since 2024. I love both shows. The experience is awesome. I never once thought about life in the shoes of a drug addict. They are just like everyone else, except they have a demon (drugs) on their back. Even when they want to do better the addiction makes it quite difficult. I have no relatives (that I know) with an addiction, so otherwise from movies and stories I heard the world of drugs and addiction is strange to me.
