Great info, thanks for the help! Question for ya, I do a ton of live productions @candylandproductions and need to hire help, should that cost go to the employer or is it my responsibility as the production company?

Working as a freelancer in sports is also more difficult because most of the times it’s a kid/teenager you are working with and they don’t want to spend much. So make sure you don’t undercharge and know the value of your work.

One thing to note is the type of client. I was rejected before because I quoted $500 for a project. But then I quoted another type of client $2,000 (for the same amount of work) and they later told me I was undercharging because my work is great. So it really depends on if the client knows the value of the work as well.

Yeah pricing can be so tough and definitely varies from client to client. At the very least being consistent in your pricing like that can help you weed out clients that aren’t right for you and find ones that are 😊

Exactly the video I’ve been searching for, not sure how I missed this one since I am subscribed!? Thanks so much for all of the info Peter! I’ve found a few other videos on this topic but they were super vague with the breakdowns, and weren’t much help at all, but yours was sooo helpful! One little question, when it comes to covering your music, stock video or vfx subscriptions etc, how do you incorporate those costs into your project fee for editing? If your monthly subscription is $30. Do you just charge an extra $30 to cover that monthly cost? Any insight would be amazing! Keep up the amazing tutorials!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I have that same rode microphone - and it produces a buzzing sound - so you get the same buzzing sound when you use it?

I've been shooting for 1 1/2 years now and have been shooting for FREE, it seems difficult for me to charge.

It can definitely be a challenging thing. At some point you have to just say a price and be okay with possibly being rejected. Hopefully some of what I talk about here can help you out.

Could you not take the post-production part of this video and apply it to your editing? How would that video differ from this one? If you have something specific you’d like me to add my thoughts on and I could give it a unique value proposition I’ll consider it.

The bigger the client is, the more likely they will need slightly more detailed invoices.
