Sometimes it is a team of people but there is definitely a trend (possibly fuelled by capacity limits and Covid restrictions?) towards smaller content teams and the need for immediate content is greater than ever so those in-game edits help get the job done efficiently!

Nice, that's seriously a lot of work to do during a game. Do you ever work with a crew large enough that you don't have to be on the computer and filming at the same time?
@petersarellas3 жыл бұрын
Having a dedicated editor and shooter working in tandem would be nice but typically it’s myself solo or with one other person, and I’d prefer to get two angles of the game and have to deal with in-game edits than sacrifice potential footage. If I could get a team of 3+ then having a dedicated editor would definitely be good.

Not sure how to use the LUTS yet but i will for sure be purchasing your LUTS thanks
@petersarellas2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that! When you add the lumetri colour effect in premiere go to the creative tab and in the “looks” drop down menu select browse and then choose the LUT you want to apply. I’d recommend applying this effect to an adjustment layer and then dragging that adjustment layer over all clips that you want to apply the LUT to.

Im shooting my daughter's club soccer games and Im using the Sony A74 with the 70-200mm 2.8 II or the 100-400mm 4-5.6 What is the best frame-rate to shoot the video in and is it best to stay on a good tripod a distance from the field?
@petersarellas2 ай бұрын
I’ll usually shoot most of everything in 60fps with key moments in 120fps, and for soccer yes I’d recommend a tripod or hi-hat in a fixed position as it’s basically impossible to move with the continuous play

Love the video! Any insights on your philosophies on zooming. I see you zoom in and out quiet a bit while shooting. Wondering if you have anything you tend to try and do.
@petersarellas3 жыл бұрын
I usually am quite liberal with zooming in and out to frame a shot, and will often zoom while panning with a subject so that I can almost “edit” a shot in-camera by transitioning my framing from a wide to a close-up or vice versa to keep focus on the subject. Sometimes I’ll often zoom in or out quite aggressively then use the motion blur created by these zooms later when editing to create in-camera zoom or whip pan transitions that help my edit flow together more smoothly.

Video looks so good dude! What settings are the camera on when filming? 4k 24fps? What aperture do you normally run and shutter speed? At 6:00 - 6:10 there's clips which are slow motion but then look like they're shot at 24fps also, what's the sequence settings for that?

Great video you make it look easy. Are you shooting in 1080? Would you make an IG reels of this game? If so how would cropping in effect the image of the reel. Last question do you record the WHOLE game waiting for something to happen?
@petersarellas Жыл бұрын
I filmed this game all in 1080p120 and then scales up the 1920x1080 image to fill a 1080x1920 composition (9:16 aspect ratio so 178% scale) when posting Reels on Instagram. Instagram compresses everything pretty heavily anyways so as long as my composition is good and I’m doing what I can to preserve image quality throughout the exporting and uploading process I don’t worry about it. I record the game in short clips and after I film a clip with either write down a quick note about it with the file number for referencing later or will delete the clip if I didn’t get any good shots and nothing notable happened. I usually stop filming at every made basket or dead ball unless the play is moving quickly.

You didn't talk about any certain settings, ISO, f-stops, fps, manual or automatic settings that you use, Go in depth with the LUTS and why you pick those particular LUTS, or even what makes a certain shot cinematic. Those details are extremely useful, and you didn't even mention them.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! Full frame lenses (will be written as “Sony-EF” lenses) will work on full frame cameras like the A7iii as well as crop sensor cameras like the a6500. Crop sensor lenses (written as “Sony-E”) will work perfectly on crop sensor cameras like the a6500, but to use them on full frame cameras like the A7iii without getting a harsh black vignette on the outside of your image you will have to crop into Super 35mm/APS-C mode.
