Crazy you don't understand how tariffs can actually be an effective strategy to create a more fair and balanced trade dynamic between countries. It's chess not checkers Peter, you're too smart to not understand the game theory at play here

sorry peter but on issue of tariffs i believe youre wrong. see other countries already manipulate trade using govt force. america and our govt has to counter with in kind pressure. make no mistake it is a form of warfare. and defense and war are something i believe you would agree are one of the few legitimate purposes of the national govt. am i wrong?
@joyhappy18963 күн бұрын
Peter, you missed the point of Trump charges high tariff on Mexico, Canada and China. Trump imposes high tariff is not because he wants to raise revenue but to punish Mexico, Canada, and China for enabling the Border Invasion. Those illegal migrants killed many Americans by bringing in a lot of crimes , drugs and fentanyl. Sometimes you have no choice but to cut off your nose to spite your face in order to get things done. Yes, Americans have to pay higher prices to buy imports but the trade-off is stopping the invasion of illegal migrants, drugs and fentanyl from China, Canada and Mexico, Americans are already broke and in debt. Americans need to stop buying all the junk from China, Mexico and Canada. China is the biggest producer of inferior-quality junk. Once the high tariff is in place, people don’t have money to buy junk but only essentials. Americans won’t die from starvation if they don’t eat fruits or vegetables imported from Mexico. Americans will be fine if they don’t own all the inferior-quality junk imported from China. People are creative. When people are like cornered rats due to high costs of everything, they know how to improvise. Don’t ever undermine people’s creativity. Our pilgrims did not use any imports from China, Mexico and Canada , yet they survived and were doing just fine. It’s time for Americans to practice “ Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make it Do, or Do Without”

Inflation can have a significant impact on individuals and their cost of living. As a result, it can cause negative market sentiment. It is important for individuals and businesses to find ways to navigate and potentially mitigate the effects of inflation on their finances. The current economic climate, including underperformance of financial markets due to fear of inflation, has led to a decrease in the value of my portfolio. I would appreciate any recommendations on how to potentially increase returns during this market downturn.

Thanks Peter for encouraging me to look at history of the pilgrims. I found that the pilgrims in Plymouth (by Cape Cod) arrived in November, and largely lived in the boat that winter. Their first growing season was a success due to an alliance with the Native Americans, and they did have a multi-day celebration of their first harvest with them. However due South in Jamestown Virginia was the starvation you mentioned…those folk never intended to farm stuff and relied upon 3 boats with supplies to arrive over time, and one was severely delayed by hurricane/Bermuda crash. They were people associated with companies looking to earn a buck in the new world and had little farming skills, and created horrible relations with the natives. The pilgrims (in Plymouth) on the other hand had a stake in creating community for community sake. They weren’t lazy and they plotted out individual land for themselves but did have a compact to help each other. The Jamestown situation on the other hand was dire and one could say it resulted from bad planning and corporate greed. I’m not sure you can say any of this was a capitalist / socialist experiment. Anyhow, fun to look it up on Thanksgiving today andI appreciate your inspiration!
@timthetiny7538Күн бұрын
It was definitely a socialist experiment. All land was communal to start with. They starved until they gave everyone private land.

Of course Peter Schiff gives a brilliant analysis of the economic situation, but, if I may respectfully point this out, the thing that makes tariffs such an important element of the medicine America needs, is, as Peter points out, Americans consume can't afford to consume at the present rate. Tariffs are wonderful because they will choke off the foreign crap we can't afford to be borrowing money to import. Of course it will trigger a recession, which, as Peter says, is what we need to reset all the imbalances. No, free trade DOES NOT WORK when you have possession of a reserve currency and an unlimited source of fiat money creation. It took me a while to figure out that this was the bug in the libertarian analysis of free trade and tariffs. Only the discipline of sky high tariffs can stave off the destruction that is inevitable when the drug of infinite amounts of fiat money are available to provide unlimited consumption. Tariffs are not the panacea, we need lots of D.O.G.E. to enable domestic production and allow for domestic income creation.

I think the problem is that no one is interested in btc anymore. Now that it has received so much adoption and acceptance as a legitimate store of value, and governments are getting involved, the mystique is gone. The ETF may have been the worst thing that could have happened to Bitcoin and crypto enthusiasts in the long run. Stacy Lynn Staples has been instrumental in helping me navigate the past few months.

The reason the dollar isn't getting weaker with trade deficits getting larger is that the demand for dollars abroad also increases in balance. Smaller trade deficits will break the balance in dollar's favor!

Some of that is true about the pilgrims, but what about on the other side of United States where the Spanish were they were here to find gold and silver real money, and they were here before the pilgrims

And again...Peter is right. Government produces waste and debt. Capitalism produces wealth and abundance!

Peter, if there were pilgrims, they didn’t have to work, they just had to walk to billions of tons of fish and animals, trillions of tons of vegetables, fruits and berries. Ask native if they own land or do farming for money back in the days. This story is full of it

Farming cooperates have worked very well. Not easy but more productive. My grandfather managed the first combine almost 100 years ago. All you need to do is keep the slimy government A- holes out.
@tuomastiihonen22313 күн бұрын
I assume the difference is that here you split the costs collectively but keep the profits individually?
@Jaysfan74933 күн бұрын
@tuomastiihonen2231 No. It worked because all members were compensated at a higher rate because fewer crops were lost. But yeah , a better producer earned more. At the end of the season, more was produced.

Wanted to thank Peter for helping me put myself on a gold standard. Not sure about the thanksgiving history lesson tho. Natives helped pilgrims farm as they were ill equipped. Pilgrims thanked them with a meal after the harvests. This would happen several times a year. Wasn’t until Lincoln that we got the national holiday. Peter forgot one important point: Capitalism won because the Natives didn’t. Is it worth the price?

I had to work with the PPP loans. I had 2 different businesses, 100% needed it, and one didn't need it, so it depends on the business.

Look president Trump did tell the people the tariff would come at some pain, but he said the pain will go away two years but if we don’t put tariffs on these other countries we will really feel the pain! So there’s really know way around feeling some pain

Of course the country that places a tarrif on a country directly pays for the tariff, but doesn't the country that has the tariffs put on them have a higher burden to produce because of the tariff, and therefore reduces supply because of the tarrif, pushing prices up in the country that is being tariffed. All countries involved are going to be worst off.

I'd prefer buying American made. But I believe we need to reel in the unions. It was the unions fault we lost our manufacturing to other countries. Labor costs here in the U.S. are too high, because of greedy unions. When will people realize when our wages are increased, "The prices of everything we buy increases even more." When we heavily tax businesses "The prices of everything we purchase from them increases" There was a time that our government ran on tariffs, and there weren't any federal income taxes. We need tariffs to gradually bring our manufacturing back to America.

There once was a need for unions. But unions now have driven all U.S. manufacturing to other countries. In order to make companies prosper once again in America, we will need to have better control over the unions. An excellent example of a prosperous company is tesla (NO UNION). The workers at tesla are happy. They make a good wage and have excellent working conditions.

Nice story. Can't find any information to back up how you understand Thanksgiving. There are many versions and most of them state half of the Pilgrims died from starvation during the first winter, shortly after they landed at Plymouth Rock.

I almost always agree with Peter’s logic and explanations. Unfortunately being right doesn’t necessarily mean getting rich, as long as we live in this clown world of fiat and Fed.
