Salif Keita live at North Sea Jazz 2023. Full concert

Keita's album La Différence was produced around the end of 2009. The work is dedicated to the struggles of the world's albino community (victims of human sacrifice), for which Keita has crossed all his life. In one of the album's songs, the singer calls on others to understand that "difference" does not mean "bad" and to show love and compassion for albinos like everyone else: "I am black / my skin is white / so I am white and my blood is black ...I love that because it's a difference that's beautiful', 'some of us are beautiful, some of us are not/some are black, some are white/all that difference was on purpose...for us to complement each other/let everyone have their love and dignity/the world will be beautiful." La Différence was shot between Bamako, Beirut, Paris and Los Angeles. This unique musical feeling is enhanced by soulful pitches in the song "Samigna" coming from the trumpet of the great Lebanese jazzman Ibrahim Maalouf. In 2001, Keita's song "Tomorrow" was featured in the Will Smith movie Ali. La Différence won Keita one of the biggest musical prizes of his career: the est World Music 2010 at the Victoires de la musique. In 2013, after what he described as "threats" from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, he canceled a performance in Israel. He later published a letter on his Facebook page, stating that he had decided to cancel the event because he feared "being harmed personally or professionally", but clarified that he still "love[d] Israel likes", denouncing BDS as an "extremist group" that used "scare tactics and bullying". In November 2018, he announced his retirement at a concert in Fana, Mali. The album Un Autre Blanc , which was released at the concert, would be his last.

And I decovered a universe of music - Rokia Traore, Ali Farka Touré, Toumani Diabaté, Oumou Sangaré, Boubacar Traoré, Cheikh Lô, Youssou N'Dour, Sally Nyolo, Fatoumata Diawata, Manu Dibango, Ismael Lo, Sorry Bamba du Mali, Mamou Sidibé, Seckou Keita, Sali Sidibé, Doumbia Nahawia, Orchestre Baobab, Bamako Railway Station, Kandia Kouyaté, Lansiné Kouyaté, Habib Koite & Bamada, Diabaté Abdoulaye, Kar Kar, Afel Bocoum, Baaba Maal, I regret, I sure forgotten a lot of famous Diwas and other Musicians. They mostly were inspired by Salif Keita and the rich culture of Mandé, and they all give it now to the young generation. I hope they dont all fall in the trap of worldwide rap and the reflect on their on origins, maybe with humor like The Kuti Mangoes. I never ment to find such a splendid, outstanding, soulful and powerful culture as in Mali. And it is same in arts, painting, sculpting, wirtten and spoken literature, don't forget the own art of Malick Sidibé (fotografie) ... you can spent a whole life on this theme, and you will get younger and younger! I ni baara! I ni ce! Peace and culture, decolonisation for Mali! ❤🦋🌻😎

Je suis depuis longtemps un grand admirateur de Salif Keita et eu la chance de travailler sur les tournées et les concerts autour du monde et de le côtoyer pendant presque 10 ans et donc vu différentes formations accompagnées Salif, pour ma part, je ne retrouve plus la qualité et l'émotion dans cette série de concert 2023, mais où sont passés les arrangements et la direction musicale qui faisaient des concerts de Salif un grand spectacle. Aucune nuances dans les arrangement, une bouilie d'instruments, la voix de Salif n'est pas mis en valeur et la guitare un des ingrédients de la musique de Salif n'est pas au rendez-vous, le son est vraiment pauvre, mais où sont passés les Moussa Diakité, Djeli Moussa Kouyaté, Jeff Kellner, Bruno Lasnier, Ousmane Kouyaté ? Tous ces guitaristes au diapason avec l'artiste. Je ne pensait jamais écrire ce genre de commentaire et je suis vraiment attristé mais la différence est trop importante et le niveau musical et la magie ne sont plus au rendez-vous. 😢😢😢

Dans la carrière d'un artiste aussi longue que Salif Keita, c'est normal qu'il y ait d'autres directions musicales. Personnellement, je préfèrais d'autres périodes mais ça n'empêche pas Salif Keita de rester un très grand artiste international. Je suis tellement fan de Salif Keita même si je ne comprends pas toujours ce qu'il dit dans ses chansons (je suis ivoirien pour info). A quand un concert à Accord Défense Arena ou à Bercy?
