Today we will visit Lake Lut, which is one of the lowest elevations in the world. Lake Lut, also known as the Dead Sea (Hebrew: יָם הַמֶּלַח, Yam ha-Melāh, "Salt Sea"; Arabic: البحر الميت, Al-Bahr al-Mayyit, Buhairat, Bahret, or Birket Lut, "Lut Lake/Sea"), is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east, Israel and the West Bank to the west. It is located in the Jordan Rift Valley, with its main tributary being the Jordan River.
One of the features that make this region unique is that it is 430 meters below sea level, making it the lowest elevation on Earth. Its own depth is 304 meters, making it the world's deepest hypersaline lake. It is considered the saltiest lake in the world, with a salinity level of almost 30% and 342 grams of salt per liter. It is 10 times saltier than the ocean, and therefore, apart from some sea bacteria, no living creature can survive in it. Its name "Dead Sea" comes from this fact.
In addition, the Lut Lake is very important in religious history. It is mentioned that there was a city before the incident called the Lut Tribe. The Lut Tribe is a people mentioned in the Abrahamic religions, including the Quran. The area where the Lut Tribe lived was around the Lut Lake, which is now located within the borders of Jordan.
According to the Quran, the Lut Tribe was punished by Allah for committing sins such as immorality and homosexuality. As a result, God punished this community and destroyed their cities. This event is known as the "Destruction of the Lut Tribe."
There are also different accounts of the Lut Tribe in various beliefs. For example, it is said that Lut was the nephew of Abraham in Judaism, while in Christianity, Lut is recognized as a prophet. However, the common point in all beliefs is that the Lut Tribe was punished for their bad behavior.
One of the stories about the destruction of the Lut Tribe is that Lut visited his tribe with angels and tried to persuade them to abandon their immorality. However, the tribe ignored the warnings and even threatened to attack Lut's angels. As a result, Allah saved Prophet Lut and his family, and destroyed the cities by raining down fiery stones from the sky.
Another story about the Lut Tribe is when Prophet Ibrahim visited Lut. At that time, Lut prepared a meal for Ibrahim because of his hospitality. However, due to the immorality of the tribe, Ibrahim advised Lut to escape from Allah's wrath and leave the city with his family.
In conclusion, the Lut Tribe has an important place in Abrahamic religions, and their stories are included in different sources. However, the common point accepted in all beliefs is that the Lut Tribe was punished for their sins. Currently, we are at the Lut Lake in Jordan, sponsored by Fatih Koparan Just English Language Schools (www.justenglis...).
