Not bad, Captain Robert. You are getting better. The cause of the thrust reduction has to do with the exhaust splitter. Due to it being a 2 outlet exhaust, efficiency drops off radically. What you have done is to super pack the air in the outlets thus increasing thrust. You can improve thrust even more by modding the exhaust splitter, maybe increase by .3 or so more. Went back and checked my maiden video, and you are right, I need 30 feet of smooth surface. Good job, Captain Robert! She will scream in the air!

I learnt from this video. Think I must cut a cheat hole in my F9F Panther. It flies well but takes a bit of time to get going too. I ended up removing the wheels and just hand launch it. Flies well and sounds good. Only get 5 minutes from 1300mah batt but it cooks the battery. No space for a larger battery. Salute.

Well done Pilot Robert. You got it correct. Not enough air getting to the EDF and your reduction of the exhaust makes for a better takeoff. That is a big difference in thrust from the original so it just goes to show that we should check for proper air intake if we have a thrust problem. :D Oh, poor little cat. I dont know about ESC my friend, but 2300kv EDF does come with 80A ESC. The point here was not in ESC. It is OK for 2150kv motor. I got arround 300gr. of difference becouse of high speed EDF unit. But for that one 60A is not enough. Even if you buy combo set on Freewing they give 80A ESC with 2150kv motor.

Although you are always in rush (understandable - day job first) - you actually pay attention to details and don't like to settle with half solutions - that is characteristic of very good modeler - congrats again !! P.S. May I have suggestion for one more experiment - test the thrust on Hawk with adapter (pre-connector) - and without - batt. and ESC with just one connection. I wonder how many mAmp-s is going there? (and of course grams of thrust that you need at the end of field, where that tall straw is growing and waiting just for you) ;-)

I salute your efforts Pilot Robert! I am curious about the space between the exit side of the fan and the point where the exhaust splits out to the two tailpipes. If there is a flat spot between the tailpipes facing the rear of the fan it will create turbulence that will severely limit thrust (like blowing against a flat wall with two holes in it). If that's case you'll need to create a more undisturbed (laminar) path for the air between the fan and the tailpipes by fabricating a diverter -- something like the nose of the old MiG-15 but placed behind the fan output so that the path of the air is gently split on its way out the two tailpipes

Awesome video, looking forward to the maiden. I am just very curious about one thing...you mentioned at the beginning of this video that the Yak has a 2150 kv motor and the info from Freewing/Motion RC says that the motor is a 2850 kv motor in that plane, is the manual inaccurate? Also, again just curious, did you ever test the thrust with the stock EDF and a 4s battery?
@PetrincicBrosRC
@PetrincicBrosRC 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks my friend. The EDFs motor was 2150kv and with 4S I got only 800gr. of thrust. If the motor was 2850 then I would have even better thrust. But for that one even 80A wouldnt be enough for 6S setup.

I was thinking of that. But then again what if maybe the wheels will not open? There are always lpuses and minuses for everything in life. Cheers my friend.

Hi Capt. Robert, i am in trouble about which one to buy: Yak130 or Hawk T1? both planes are rated well, but seems the yak has some issue. Since i am not a wizard of the EDF, i rely on stock so which would you choose? Cheers again from the Belpaese :) PS: i will come and visit you at your airfield when coming to Croatia next summer :) and bring with me one of those beauties to fly together. What a scoop on YT: first formation flight!!!

Have you checked the stator blades in the duct, which straightens out the air blown by the fan (efflux) for maximum momentum of the air mass - there are different orientations for clockwise and counter-clockwise rotations. Using a mismatched counter-clockwise duct/clockwise will cause thrust to suffer. The absence of a duct lip also has an effect when the fan blades are near-flush with the lip of the duct - air turbulence near the fan blades disrupts the boundary layer over them, killing lift (the fan blades are essentially rotating wings).

Interesting you came up with the same solution as the full size airplane, it has cheater holes as well. Just at a different location. The big plane has them on top to avoid sucking crap into the engine. BTW, Blaz should maiden the biplane since it has a gas engine.

It really works my friend. And to have the holes on top is perfect idea. I didnt even think of that. Perfect.

One thing that is different between those two planes is the Hawk has a single exhaust port and your Yak has the twin. Probably a significant difference.

Oh yeah my friend. That was V1 and with 6 blades you have more thrust. They went here with 12 blades I think for good sound but you do loose the thrust. But now I have good sound and insane thrust.

All your other EDF jets have one big exhaust, the Freewing Yak-130 V3 has 2 small exhaust outlets instead of one big one, i think that may have caused the lack of power.
