In reality today, Petroleum Engineers do not get involved with designing, planning or executing operations. Oilfield disciplines are highly segmented today than it was several decades ago, due to the need for more focus in certain areas, resulting in many more specialty job titles. In Exxon and Shell, the Petroleum Engineering function is sub-divided into Reservoir Engineering, Production Technology, Petrophysics. There is a completely different function called Well Engineering, which is sub-divided into Drilling, Completions, Interventions. The Facilities function is primarily responsbile for design, planning, construction and installation of platforms and subsea umbilical, risers and flowlines. A Petroleum Engineer's job is to model flow and they work on the evaluation side of things, not too much on the operational side of things. Not everything you see on KZbin is correct.
