We had a percolator like that when I was a child. Maybe 55 years ago. I'm glad to see that they are still manufacturing them.

Great video! Im looking for something like that for a long distance hike I'm planning for 2021. Do you think it would sit in a trangia 27 cooking set or would i be better looking for a smaller one? Keep the great videos coming . Thanks
@wildernessnomad37854 жыл бұрын
Hi there glad you liked the videos and thanks for the feedback very much appreciated 👍 the coffee percolator is far to big for hiking with more for a base camp of vehicle bourne trips, you can get filters which are folding and would fit in a trangia, I now use coffee bags for trips out as thay our quick,easy and less mess. 😀👍

I know this is old, but, using aluminum cookware has no negative health effects. Aluminum makes up 7% of the earths crust it's in the water you drink it's in the air you breath, it's only "harmful" in amounts that the average person will never come into contact with. That said quality stainless is always the better option if weight isnt a factor due to being much more durable.
@wildernessnomad37853 жыл бұрын
You maybe correct in what you say about aluminium but there have been scientific studies which may go against your argument, I will not go down that rabbit hole. but it is not a very good material to cook in of use on open fire as from experience it can melt on you and if over cleaned and scrup can get some rub off which I don't like the idea, everything is toxic to the human body but its the amount of exposure you get that depends on how toxic it may be, its just my personal choice 😉 funny you commented on that part of the vid and nowt else lol but I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment and it's very much appreciated 👍 🙏

@@wildernessnomad3785 "funny you commented on that part of the vid and nowt else" I was gonna comment on you using to much water, you filled it up to the holes of the pour spout that's to much, the water will come into contact with the coffee in the basket, but since this is an old video I figure you probably figured that out by now and I didn't want to be a dick and tell you how to make your coffee since everyone has their own specific way they like to do it. As for aluminum melting while cooking on a fire, you're not supposed to use it in direct contact with an open flame, a wood fire under the right conditions using the right wood can reach 1700F+ (800 to 900C+). Cast iron steel, and titanium are what you want if you want to cook on an open fire. That said even melted aluminum isn't dangerous (apart from you know, touching it while it's still hot), it becomes dangerous when it is vaporized which you would need to heat it to 4220F (2327C). Anyway cheers mate, hope you're enjoying your percolator, how is it holding up after nearly 2 years?

Thanks for replying mate, yes the coffee pot is still going strong and producing awesome coffee, yes I did put 2 alot of water in just to show that it said it had 2ltrs capacity and it clearly didn't lol, and back to the aluminium that's why I choose aluminium because 90% of my cooking is on open fires and from experience when I started out I melted a few army mess tins lol, I mainly have steel, cast and titanium, if you look at my other vids you will see using an trangia that's made out of aluminium. Don't worry about being a dick mate if it's a genuine comment and not put out like your being a dick it will be recieved in the contest it was supposed to be, as always thanks for taking the time to comment back appreciated 👍

Iv been looking at something like this for camp trips, looks perfect. Do you have a link from where you got it and can you get a smaller one at all?
@wildernessnomad37854 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching m8 much appreciated, this is the smallest one of the stainless steel ones but its bomb proof bit of kit. I got it from Amazon m8, there are other options out there but this one looked good had good reviews and like I said is solid. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073P6DLDM/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i_fEGjEb0XTB37R

Lol good effort for using the grenade tin, I've used a few ammo boxes in my time so probably well picked myself, 100% agree fresh coffee is so much better especially when done out in the woods, cant wait to get back out when the restrictions are over, as always thanks for watching and commenting m8 its very much appreciated 👍🙏🇬🇧⚔
