Oscars are amazing fish, mine is only about three or four inches but getting bigger by the day! He always comes to the tank when I’m around to see what i’m doing and when I’m stroking my finger in the glass he always get so excited! Amazing fish Edit : he passed away march last year

I love Oscar fish I used to pet mines all the time they never bit me even when they got bigger I found a endangered Oscar at pet supplies it lost a fin and was ugly had scars and scratches I took it and nursed it back to health my other 2 oscars at the time was jealous I was giving this one fish attention but I loved all of them so much I had them from when I was 12 all the way until I was 17 then they died it hurt me so much we tried to replace them but it wasent the same I couldn't look at my fish tank the same way after that so its just a empty 500 gallon tank in my living room one day I will raise some more but I still hold grief about the ones I lost

My brother had oscars growing up, I remember petting them too. Cool fish. He used to make them jump out of the water. I remember when he use to introduce other fish in the tank and how territorial they were. The only other fish that I remember being just as bad or even worse were the Managuense fish. They were some nasty fish.

I bought an oscar with a small assortment of other fish, including 2 mollys ( I was like 11 didnt know any better). He never bothered them, so I thought their aggression was overrated. I was sorely mistaken when I tried to add a beta to the tank, as it went straight from the plastic bag to Oscar's belly. Strange he never messed with the small fish that were in the tank when he was small though, even after this incident those mollys lived a full life.

I think that tank is kinda small for those fish, i would recomend an 800-1000 litre with the amount of money youv'e spent on filters i would think an 800-1000 litre tank isn't out of reach.

Chris Thomas Generally you need to start hand feeding them when they are small. They are pretty shy for a while, but when hungry enough they eat. If you have an older fish that has developed his teeth already it wouldn't be a good idea to try now because he'll take a chunk out of your finger.

Wow those are gorgeous! I myself have a Convict Cichlid named Dexter in a size 16 bow front tank. He is very happy and isn't aggressive to anyone but my dad. I must say that Cichlids are one of the funnest fish to have due to burrowing. Dexter will keep me up at night just so I play hide and seek with him!

***** I didn't just look at 1 site. Almost every site I looked at (and I looked at quite a few) said an Oscar should have a 75 to itself. Some of them said 55 minimum. I myself didn't listen to that advice very much. So I have 2 10 inch Oscars in a 75 gallon by themselves. And now I realize why people say to keep them in 75s by themselves. They're the messiest fish I've ever seen. I had a very powerful canister filter to start with. But that wasn't enough. So I bought a second filter, which is a HOB. It's a little better, but I still find myself having to do water changes at least every other day. Even with 2 powerful filters going at the same time

Hi and thanks. It sometimes depends on the specific fish temperament and behavior. The are living species and all react different. To keep multiple larger aggressive fish in one tank, I have to admit the trick is to minimize hides and caves, territorials areas. Plus the more fish the more relaxed they get since none can keep control.

+Mike Anaya Your tank was probably too small or it didn't provide enough cover. Oscars are cichlids. And cichlids require lots of caves and cover in their tank so that their territories can be established. If there's no territories, they're going to fight over the entire tank.

what a marvellous tank!, amazing to see the Oscars and red devil so peaceful together. I had a breeding pair of adult Oscars about 20 years ago, and an adult red devil in a separate tank. whilst they did'nt really bite, they could give you a nasty suck! lol Having said that I did buy them as adults which probably explains why they weren't as gentle as yours are. :-)
