This is a great adaptation of the book. Andrew Scott is sublimely sinister and he gives a brilliant performance here. I was rooting for Tom to get away with it the whole time! Lol

I wonder all the time if Ripley-era Highsmith would like this adaptation, or that adaptation... somehow I feel like she might actually have gotten into this one.

Why are we, as a society, not talking about Andrew Scott all the time?

This was an incredible show. The cinematography in particular was stunning.

My first introduction to Andrew Scott was Sherlock (2010) and I LOVED him!! His acting, his charming charisma and the sexual tension he implied with him and Sherlock was amazing!! 😊

I absolutely loved this adaptation of Ripley. It is highly atmospheric and beautifully acted. Andrew Scott is perfection.

Great reaction lads! That little John Malkovich cameo was a welcome surprise and loved that bombshell they dropped on us right at the end with the photo of the real Dickie! 😉😁

Transphobes got real mad about Eliot playing Freddie due to the cognitive dissonance their own hateful ideology gives them, but to launder their hatred as criticism they claim that Sumner can’t act, let alone emote, and that they only got the role because of their dad.
@Mulbert7 ай бұрын
I actually thought they played what TBF was also a bit of a one note character in the film (I haven't read the book yet) well; also if you're reading some of Ripley's dislike/jealousy of Freddie to do with his attraction to Dickie it adds to it for Freddie to be more attractive (those cheekbones!) Their role was an arrogant rich playboy and they played him very well! Terfs gonna terf though

I was hoping they would review this! I didn't think it would happen because it's a bit of a slower moodier series but I'm so happy to be wrong! Love the reactions as always, Happy Pride 💕

I mean, if you seek more of Andrew Scott, you might as well checkout Fleabag (which also stars the great Phoebe Waller-Bridge). And if you've already seen it, this'll be an excellent time to re-watch it.

Wish he had won, but Ripley did win director, sound editing, visual effects and cinematography! Glad it was recognized at least.

So, I'm gonna sit down and watch the first episode with you, and if I enjoy the series, I'll stop and watch it in full on my own (and then of course be back to re-watch along with you)

Andrew Scott can do anything! That sketchy road in southern Italy is called the Amalfi Drive. It's a wicked long road from Naples to Sorrento, so dangerous during the peak tourist times. I went to Italy when I was 15 with my parents, the BEST trip ever! We have family at the end of the Almafi Dr in Salerno. Love it when Tom goes up all those stairs lol su su su su su, (up, up, up, up, up) Tom is so sinister. I liked this version better than the movie.

Please react to Purple Noon from 1960. I love Alain Delon in this role.

Johnny Flynn (Dickie) sounds so much like Matt Damon that it throws me off every time he speaks. Its like he thought he was going to play Ripley and used the 90s film as a training device and kept it up after being cast as Dickie. Super distracting.
@Zucifer85 ай бұрын
If you really like the Talented Mr Ripley story, you should watch Purple Noon, another interpretation. The guys are even hotter in that one lol
@Psych9116 ай бұрын
Really hoping that you watch Plein Soleil, boys - the OG Ripley adaptation from France. Alain Delon is so unbelievably, astonishingly gorgeous as Tom. I don't think there was ever a better looking man on screen. The story is different (remembering that it was adapted for a 1950s audience) but well worth it. It's a visual feast.

I loved the serie. Sumptuously done. But still no adaptation can top the movie with Matt Damon.
@Mulbert7 ай бұрын
I had mixed feelings about this adaptation, I thought it started way too slow but obviously it did speed up quite a bit once the murders began! Having only seen the film I expected the attraction Ripley has to Dickie to be more overtly sexual and even romantic (from Ripley's perspective!), in the film killing Dickie seems like a crime of passion and jealousy but here it definitely feels more clinical. My biggest criticism in general is that this Dickie is not charismatic enough! With Jude Law's performance he seemed to have so much more life and it was more understandable why Ripley would become so obsessed with him, it was also very hard to tell what this Dickie was thinking when Jude Law was so much more passionate and like an open book. I'm looking forward to reading the book and finding out which his original character is closer to. I did find it hilarious that for someone so adept at forgeries, impersonations etc. he is actually terrible at covering up his murders, those blood stains in the bath were giving me such anxiety! I liked the ending apart from I so wish they'd left out the Inspector visiting him in Venice or done the scene some other way because it was actually ridiculous, the beard & wig looked so fake and it was so clearly him! Then again he was the world's worst inspector 😅 I'm excited to read the book now! I hope they adapt some of the other books too, it'll make more sense Andrew Scott being older for them. Sorry for this mini essay lol but none of my pals have watched it and I have feelings 😅
