In interviews, both Nick and Taylor are so well versed on their characters. They really understood the need to represent such important characters with queer identities. Nick didnt read the book bcoz he wanted to stick to the script, but he read it after filming. Taylor read the book several times. Nicholas was the director's first pick for Henry so when he accepted, the role of Alex relied on the chemistry with Nicholas. And so Taylor had that best chemistry and they even did the rehearsals via Zoom. Also Director Matthew Lopez really loved the book too and this his director debut!! he nailed it so much.
@patriciaramirez2982 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely love the lake scene and how Taylor and Nicholas play it, in their heads Alex and Henry are in 2 completely different stories, like you guys said Alex is in a fairytale, he's in a love story about to confess to the love of his life, while Henry is in a tragic love story where he's realizing he won't be able to love this man in the way he wants to be loved, loudly, outwardly.

Yeah, the fact that his favourite movie is "In the Mood for Love" (two people, whose spouses are cheating on them with one another, fall in love but never consummate their love and never get to be together) is basically an easter egg to hint at what Henry's idea of his own romantic possibilities - or lack thereof - is....poor lamb!

In the UK we do NOT say 'pinky' (Ugh, horrible word!) WE call it what it is, the little finger. Usually worn in upper class families as a sort of badge of honour - which is why, in the book, Henry removes it to be able to speak frankly for the storming the castle scene, and why he gives it to Alex to wear in the film - the strict bands of aristocracy loosening from his soul. If you look carefully you can see that the inscription is a cursive letter H.

Her finding Henry in the closet in the hotel room was so hilarious. The Paris hotel room sex scene was so beautifully done. It was done with such elegance and dignity. No panning the camera away, not hiding the body placements. Such a romantic moment in the movie, and THAT MUSIC! The museum scene absolutely killed me the first time I watched it (and still occasionally on rewatches). It was so intimate and romantic and the song choice was perfect ("Can't Help Falling In Love" by Perfume Genius who I love also). I've been to the Victoria & Albert Museum and have walked that exact corridor. I have photos of those exact statues where they were dancing. As someone who loves museums, I'm adding having a late night private date at a museum with a guy to my fantasy wish list. I felt so incredibly single in that moment watching that scene.

At one point in the novel, Alex comments to himself something like “thank God for staff NDAs,” and ain’t that the truth!

I just finished the movie, it was very very beautifully done, the two actors are dreamy and their chemistry is ineffable, I give it 1 million out of 1 million , definitely the best film of 2023.

Thank you for your review. It is probably the funniest, most positive, appreciative and comprehending review I have ever seen (why DO so many so called 'reviewers' on KZbin work so hard wasting time displaying their screaming bad manners and their own ignorance of what they are doing as if it is something clever, when in fact it screams IDIOT and AMATEUR very very loudly? Sorry, I am a retired theatre critic and it annoys me that so many idiots think anyone can do it) You made me laugh and splutter and also nod at your collective wisdom and perception; and delight in the strength of your partnership as you do so. Sweet of you both, and quite lovely. You two are sweet and heartwarming. I owe you hot chocolate and marshmallows!

Really enjoyed your commentary! I've watched it twice already. I'm glad youth today have media like this to watch- I feel like we could've all used it.

Watching your reaction video was just so wonderful. Your reactions added a fantastic layer to it, like in the scene where Henry/Alex exchange their ring/key! 😭😂

So much for 'oh, queer characters must ALWAYS be played by queer actors'. They couldn't have found a better duo than these two. Their chemistry is off the charts.

Chey's absolute mental breakdown watching the London tower, art museum, and "I love you" scenes is so relatable lol

Fun fact: Sarah Shahi, who plays the PR woman, played Carmen in The L Word Seasons 1 and 2.

I’m pretty sure the sweatshirt Henry is wearing when he gives Alex his ring and Alex gives him his necklace is the one Alex was wearing earlier in the movie.
