I’m American and only knew Petula hits like Downtown, My Love, I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love, etc. When I was a kid my mom would play her records and of course I came to like them. I never heard this earlier 1958 hit from England and France.. It’s awesome! Love it! God bless you mom, if you were here listening to this song you would be singing along and dancing with that beautiful smile of yours! But I know you’re in Heaven listening, singing and dancing! Love you mom. Petula is an awesome vocalist, a singer’s singer. No electronic gimmicks or auto tune! A natural ! Mom mom played accordion and was an awesome vocalist and had good taste in music and knew talent when she heard it; and she liked Petula’s voice for sure!

Great Song. I loved this song, ever since I saw Jackie Wright sing it on The Benny Hill Show. While I like this version, too, I really liked The Benny Hill Version.

Looks like it was filmed in a first class carriage of a train. Petula Calrk looks a bit like Juile Andrews in 1958.

@@wayne_twentyfive Petula and Julie were close friends when at the ages of nine/ten they would go on a train to go to places where the troops of soilders were stationed and they would sing to them in World War Two.

I've got a copy of the Little Johnny and the Three Teenagers version on Decca. It's o.k., just don't play the 'B' side! Incidentally, if ever a song called out for a heavy doowop interpretation it's 'Baby Lover'.

There’s only vague similarities. The castinets in the intro are reminiscent of those in Little Darlin by the Diamonds

Cute record from Petula Clark, which secured a 12th spot at best in the British top 20 hit parade. However, this dreadful film didn’t do her any favours.

Dreadful? I think it’s cool; the 1950s style clothing etc. and Petula was a looker! Let me ask you something, did you ever make a movie? Probably not.

@@johnjames4591 Your observation about me not being in films, I find a somewhat bizarre and irrational comment to make, since I, along with many others who haven’t worked in the film industry, still reserve the right to comment about a movie. Indeed, there are legions of film and theatre critics who make a lucrative living from expressing their opinions in their reviews. The fact I’m not an architect, doesn’t disqualify from me expressing an opinion about a particular building or structure. Likewise, because I’m not an artist or author, doesn’t disqualify me from expressing opinions - after all, many of us are not artists or writers, but we all have an opinion as to whether we like something or not. We are dealing in the realms of subjectivity and listening to, and reading varied opinions, is part of the rich tapestry of life, as well as a prerequisite to learning. Your comment reminded me of a comment made by a fellow university student in an English literature tutorial, since he criticised me for being somewhat disparaging about a 20th century poem, and justified his criticism, saying that since I hadn’t had any of my own poems published, I was in not in position to criticise or express an opinion. I could have ‘shot him down in flames’, metaphorically, not literally, but I decided not to rise to the bait, as his adolescent response to my opinion was of course palpable nonsense. I rest my case.
