The actual NIJ doesn't test plates. They rely on third party labs to perform all testing. Whether you are testing for "NIJ Compliance/Certification" or just seeing if the materials you assembled will pass the threat assessment you hoped it would. NIJ compliance/certification ends up being more of a paper trail/auditing check to ensure you as the manufacturer are able to document every bit of the supply chain process for your raw materials, so that your plate as tested will perform the same when Follow up Inspection Testing (FIT) is done by the NIJ.

A bunch of scrap to the chin could be a game over. To each their own as with all things. The point of the first comment is that steel will take(stop) more rounds and is more "durable" and has longer life. 3+ also will stop most of the rounds out there. If y'all have the cash, it would be great to see tests on higher-end ceramics like Hesco, Velocity, AT Armor, etc.

How about putting the plates in a plate carrier? I just bought level 4 ceramic plates with PE but the PE is in front of the strike face.
@packet-burner3 жыл бұрын
What plates did you get that have the PE on the front??

Just purchased the RTS Level IV ceramic plates. Anyone have any experience with them? With the lack of NIJ certification and all.

I feel like armor tests should be somewhere in between the two. I agree that doing 6 shots perfectly spaced to split the plate perfectly isn’t the right way because you are doing a “best case scenario” test. But also, punching multiple rounds into the same hole isn’t realistic either. Worst case scenario for sure. Good info to have but I feel like maybe just standing at X distance and shooting a plate like you would shoot a drill makes most sense. Even at CQB distances the chances you get hit in the same spot during a gunfight is pretty damn low.

My gripe is if you’re wearing armor are you going to stand around after be shot once? While serving in Iraq I have friend that was hit dead center of he vest by 7.62x39 knocking him on his ass. Sure quick follow up shots are possible but I’m sure not going to be sticking around for the follow up.

Room clearing would be more likely to get hit multiple times which is common for mil, pd, and even civis doing home defense

I’m glad they replaced him. He cared more about showing off his arms at the range them putting out good non-annoying content

I rock a judge 410 on me you know what I mean and I need to know where the limit is on this thing because it has a lot of different rounds and they're all Overkill

I have l210's also and I really like the weight and how thin they are but only having protection against 5.56 and 7.62x39 ap is pretty good in the modern times but if you think you'll ever be facing .308 then yeah its not great.

Honestly I find the rests to be the worst case scenario to face. If you roll up on some guy running m2 ap, I think you gucked up somewhere along the line and if you are getting peppered by 223, refer to last statement.

You should have shot black tip first dead center then go on with the games. How about just shooting 5 black tip in the 4 corners and center???

I use hard cati armor. It heavy but I put everything up to 300 msg and 45-70 and it stopped them all. So I got zither with double coating. I wear it often and each time the weight is riding easier each ride. CATI ARMOR 3+ IS THE WAY TO GO IN MY BOOK JUST HEAVY SO MAN UP 😆

Level IV plates aren't rated to stop multiple intermediate threats AND a 30-06 black tip. It's rated to stop multiple intermediate threats OR 1 round of 30-06 black tip.
