When I was going through the WFMU archives a few years ago, I found a few forums from 2000-2001 that took this absolutely seriously and feverishly theorized about it for pages and pages. You had a few guys pointing out how obviously this was extremely silly nonsense, but Reed managed to weave in a bunch of other existing rumors that convinced the majority. Well, either that or he was also posting to forums under several names.
