I saw the Pezband at the Starwood in L.A. back in 1974. They were kind of a pre-punk/power-pop group back then, but I liked them and always thought they should have made it big.

Nice grit and edge to this one. Shame they flew under the radar. Too many power pop bands at once.

Such an amazing song. It always puzzles me that this never became a huge hit like, say, “A Million Miles Away” by the Plimsouls

In two words: the production. Had this song been in the hands of producer Roy Thomas Baker, for example, it would have easily been a top-10 smash hit. Many power-pop bands back in the day suffered the same fate which will forever be a travesty. If only I had been around back then as an ace-producer..

@@duffbaker9554 Well, it certainly sounds horrible here, but I remember the vinyl sounding quite nice cranked up on my home stereo back in the day. Quite dynamic. It’s sad that this is the probably the best or only version on KZbin.

@@renodavid Nah, it didn't have the production that was really suitable for commercial radio. It doesn't have the required high-end that Cheap Trick, The Knack and The Cars, for example, had. Plus the drums weren't mixed high enough and could have been brighter. The energy is definitely there, though. I'd be great to hear this (slightly) remixed and remastered.

@@duffbaker9554 Well, perhaps so. I can go along with that as long as you’re.not judging it from what it sounds like here. However, I think it can easily be argued that the main reason for their lack of success was their crappy record company.😕

@@renodavid Oh no, not judging it here-I've got the actual album (along with the other two, the two (live) e.p's. and a few of their 45s. And yes, I agree with you about them being on Passport Records (the same could be said about 20/20 being on Portrait and The POP on Arista). But the production really did not have that commercial radio-sound, though having said that, I think it has an 'edge' to it which I find quite cool.

This isn't bad. Sort of that 70's power popish with a touch of light punk in it, maybe?
