Hi Joe, this is great, not enough drummers get on to this and it can transform how you play when you're focussed on relaxing the mechanics. Personally, I would disagree that you can't perform it slowly though. On Jojo Mayer's Secret Weapons 1, he breaks down the moeller whip in to little 3 sections you can slowly go through whilst it works in to your muscle memory. I agree that some motions just can't be performed at slower speeds though.

Hey James, I know the Jojo DVD. My point is that going through those motions helps you to figure out what position your arm/wrist/hand will be in at different points, but the actual whipping of the stick comes from the change in direction. If that motion is performed slowly you have to put the stick into place in a way that is unnecessary above a certain speed. It's like working with a bass drum pedal. If you have the beater in the head and you lift your foot quickly, the spring tension will pull the beater back further than its resting position. If you lift foot very slowly, the spring will do nothing once you get past the resting position. The general point being that, once you speed up the stroke, you have to do a lot less to get into the positions that Jojo highlights. They all come as a natural result of being relaxed and creating this change of direction. I hope that makes some sense. Joe

Hi Joe, Thanks for clarifying. You're right, our points don't conflict here, I don't think I paid enough attention. Cheers
