Excellent video. I am 8 years older than you. I am amazed that your DX7IIFD is in such great condition, although you did the necessary overhaul work like an automobile due to its age. I agree, this is a beautiful keyboard, and a classic milestone in musical instrument history. It was used in so many recordings, and is a landmark keyboard, legendary like the Roland D-50 that was released around the same time period. It, like the D-50, and my 1983 RolandbJX-3P is heavy, but built solid, and feels substantial, but a lot easier to carry than a Fender Rhode 73 Stage Piano. Along with the Fender Rhodes variants and the Wulitzer, the DX7 FM electric pianos are standard sounds so familiar and used often, very distinctive and recognizable. I love Roland gear, but very impressed with Yamaha due to this keyboard, the new PSR-EW425, the Reface series CP, YC, DX & CS are great compact versions of the original, like Roland has been releasing miniature versions of their famous keyboards and drum machines over the years. And also, the PSS-A50 for its low cost and the amazing capabilities you demonstrate so well. I plan on getting a Casio CT-S1 soon, and maybe the PSR-EW425 later, and possibly a Reface CP to add to my PSS-A50, Roland Go:Keys and JD-Xi. I enjoy your videos and your mastery of the operation and capabilities of all the keyboards you have, along with you creativity, musical giftings and amusing humor. 🐈😻 And the Rice 🍚 Musubi in your past video was so big, it was fit for a Sumo wrestler.

I like that enthusiasm with the DX7. That dude is right on the spots.
What a wonderful video on the DX7II FD. I bought mine from a piano and instrument store in the US in around 1988 when I was 24. I have missed the overhaul I should have had in 2015-2016 so my battery is out and memory will not hold, but I will take care of that soon. Like you I am concerned about my floppy drive, but have one that may fit if it goes bad, and have a usb memory version that may also work. Thanks for this video that you made!
The mechanical noise is because the felt dampener inside the keyboard hardens over time, but it is a very cheap component to replace. I replaced it on mine 5 years ago and have been really happy with the feel since :)

Great performance! I often wish there is a portable keyboard with a multitrack midi looper built in instead of sequencer. With small selection but good quality sound set, you can play and sketch out idea quickly everywhere.
@jjacob25101 Жыл бұрын
If anyone came out with one, it would probably be Roland, as they seem to be the keyboard company with the best loopers. They would most likely be in their System 1 series synthesizers, not so much a a conventional keyboard.
@jjacob25101 Жыл бұрын
I forgot about it, but I believe the Roland V Combo VR-09B performance gigging keyboard has a sample phrase looper, and even one of the latest keyboard with the V Beam? Infrared Co troller you can alter sounds with your hand. It's a professional level keyboards, so it's in the $1,100 range, I believe out if production, but still available, and in demand. My local music store in Honolulu, HI had one recently, and someone bought it over a newer RD 88 stage piano at the same price. If I was a professional gigging musician, my weapons of choice would be a Roland RD 88 and V Combo VR-09 for gigs, and a Fantom 07 and my JD-Xi for production, recording, etc. My present keyboard setup is the Roland JD-Xi, Go:Keys, my brand new Casiotone CT-S1, Yamaha PSS-A50, Boss DR-5 Drum Machine, and some other gear, including my Roland CD-2 Professional CD/CF recorder. I plan to pick up the Roland Go:Mixer Pro-X, a Zoom H4n Pro portabke digital recorder and maybe the new Roland VT-4 Voice Transformer or the new one that recently came out, forgot the name. What also would be nice to have is the Yamaha Reface CP & YC.
So you do have a looper. It would be cool to loop the pss-A50 to exceed the 700 note limit. 😀😀

Hello, I am Abby. I really like the tine tones of DX7 so I keep watching different DX7 videos on KZbin. Today I really enjoy watching you playing with the DX7II! And the I went through your channel. You have so many videos playing with different synth instruments. I love them all! After that I visited kono san's homepage and found that you are based in Shizuoka and having requested jazz solo schedules. I am living in Tokyo and I am looking forwards to the day that I can visit you! Moreover, the CD are only 200yens. I suppose that is what we called "love".

On the fence about buying a vintage one of these. Such a classic sound. I think many of these sounds would really take my LOFI Chill songs to the next level. But would a Yamaha DX REFACE do what I need it to? And then there's the Roland Boutique series mini keyboards emulating the Roland JU-06A, which also sounds amazing.
@pf_masa2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. The RefaceDX is a great instrument, but I feel that it has a lighter and brighter sound quality than the DX7II. On the other hand, I am also very interested in the Roland Boutique series, but I haven't bought it yet because I'm not sure what sound I want to achieve. If you don't have the opportunity to compare it with vintage sounds from the past, you may be satisfied with a recent instrument. I think the key to purchasing is whether you have a clear sound you are aiming for and have the opportunity to compare it with legacy sounds from the past.☺

Wow! Such a great demo! I want one! No scratch that, it's way overpriced, sounds tinny and weighs too much. Anyone have one to sell? 😉
Hello, just by curosity, which RAM Cartiage are you using for this demo. Is it all of them or just 1?
@pf_masa Жыл бұрын
This demo does not use a RAM cartridge, just the DX7's internal memory. All the batteries in my RAM cartridge have run out, and I don't have one that I can use right now...

Such a wonderful performance! Just like a fresh mountain stream! And You made so nice cozzy atmosphere with a warm lights. Subscribed to Your channel. I`m glad that KZbin recommended Your video. I very like the FM sound from childhood. I wanted to find the DX7 for long time, but after discover the SY77 model I decided to buy that one, because it have even two DX7II with advance FM technology + rompler. More than it, SY77 was used by so many famous musicians and composers (Keiko Matsui, Jean-Michele Jarre, Ryuichi Sakamoto and others). And... Yes, it looks very cool - strong, professional design - just like other synthesizers from the 80s .
