It's good to have a project to follow along with in near-real time. I just started configuring a machine with a new 4 port nic card. Going to follow along with each step! Thank you for your granular explanations. Very very helpful!!!

Hi, First, I'd like to congratulate you on your excellent video series on creating a home hack lab. I've been following it step by step and it's been incredibly helpful. I have a technical question regarding the firewall rules on the LAN interface, specifically about the rule blocking services on the WAN interface. Could you please clarify the difference between setting the destination to "WAN subnets" versus setting the destination to "WAN addresses" in the firewall rules? How does each setting impact the traffic blocking behavior, and in what scenarios would one be preferred over the other? Thank you in advance for your assistance!
@SoBatistaCyber2 ай бұрын
Hello @EddieGadgetReview 😊 When you configure a rule to block traffic from LAN subnets to WAN subnets, this means that LAN devices cannot access any IP address within the entire WAN subnet range. However, if you choose to block traffic from LAN subnets to specific WAN addresses, the rule will only block traffic to those specific IP addresses within the WAN subnets. This means some IP addresses within the WAN can still receive communication from the LAN, while communication to others will be blocked. So, you choose WAN subnets when you want to completely isolate the LAN network from the WAN network, ensuring no cross-communication and also, to prevent any potential data leaks or unauthorized access to WAN resources. Now, you choose WAN addresses when you need to block access to specific resources or devices within the WAN network while still allowing access to other resources and also, when you want more granular control. I hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions if you have any and I will do my best to answer them all. Cheers

Thank you for another informative video. I am new to Virtual Box, it seems to be very good to work with in Windows so far. Do you think this same setup will work in ProxMox? What do feel is the best OS to run Virtual Box on?
@SoBatistaCyber2 ай бұрын
Hello! Sorry for the delayed answer, but I wanted to make sure I provided you with accurate information. ProxMox Compatibility: The same setup should work in Proxmox. It supports running various types of virtual machines, including those that can be run on VirtualBox. Although I haven't personally worked with Proxmox, there is extensive documentation available to guide you through the process. Here are some helpful resources: pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/ www.wundertech.net/how-to-install-pfsense-on-proxmox/ getlabsdone.com/how-to-install-pfsense-on-proxmox-step-by-step/ Best OS for Running VirtualBox: Regarding the best operating system to run VirtualBox, it largely depends on your specific needs and preferences. Here are some considerations: ➡️ Linux: Many users prefer Linux due to its performance, resource efficiency, and flexibility. Distributions like Ubuntu are popular because of their ease of use and strong community support. ➡️ Windows: If you are already comfortable with Windows, it is a perfectly good choice. Windows is user-friendly and widely compatible with various software. ➡️ macOS: If you are using Apple hardware, macOS is also a solid choice Ultimately, if you are already comfortable with Windows and it meets your needs, continuing to use it is a sensible option. However, experimenting with Linux could offer better performance and resource management, which is something to consider if you plan to run multiple or resource-intensive virtual machines. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers ☺️

I have a question:Should you start with networking or python?
@SoBatistaCyberАй бұрын
Hello @jeffsad8391, Thank you for your question 😊 Why not both? You can easily start with network & develop some network related small programs in Python (just an example could be a chat system, with a server and 2 clients that speak to each other) Anther option I'd say is to split your time between these 2 topics, they are both essential. However, you can learn them in sequence, let's say you start with Python & then you go to networking, it is up to you to be honest 😊 Cheers
