I think many great athletes live by that phrase in "The Hustler" where it is better to win than to earn. I was once watching a snooker match of all things. Ronnie O'Sullivan was playing the match. He breaks the rack, doesn't make anything, and then his opponent takes over the table and misses his shot. Ronnie looks at the layout that is left, and then suddenly he asks the referee "How much is the bonus for a perfect 147?" In some tournaments, there's a bonus for anyone who scores the perfect 147 on television. The ref had to stop the match for five minutes while he speaks to the tournament coordinator. The ref finally returns and basically tells Ronnie that there is no bonus. Ronnie is completely amazed, and you can see it in his face that he'd rather play conservatively than to score 147 because there's no monetary incentive to play a perfect game. But instead, he goes on to clean the table for the 147 despite receiving nothing for the achievement. So at least in this one instance, common sense took over and he was able to win the match and tournament. But would he throw the game another day over the same circumstances? Who knows!

Feherty and McCord - that was THE DUO!!!!!! Screw Olbermann and Patrick - they were nothing when compared to these two golfers. Feherty would be on the fairway, while McCord would be sitting in a tower. And they'd be going at it back and forth with witty commentary. I'd pay good money to watch and listen to these two go at it on a stage.

Phil suffers from dopamine insufficiency and needs a fix. This is what happens when all you ever do is practice and obsess over the flop shot. It makes your brain super floppy and gambling is Phil's go to schtick for getting out of the bunker. He just needs to find a new dopamine habit which delivers him from repeatedly boning the ball into the hairy lip. Always needing to take a drop, before the ball runs off the green shall we play hockey and go for a new goal 🥅.

It's Phil's money to do with as he chooses. He's not running around on his wife and family, he's not a drunk or druggie. He's made 3/4 of a billion dollars, maybe more. 50 million is a lot, but not enough to put him in the pour house. He calls out the PGA for what he feels is wrong and gets attacked for it, because others don't have the balls. It's easier to say nothing and be safe. If you want change, well it takes guts sometimes and a will to willing be open to take shots from the pussy trolls. Jay Monaghan the PGA, commentators and fellow players Rory, JT ,...... Competition is good for everything and everyone. PGA can't allow competition, because it will show how corrupt it truly is.
@dorothygale1104
@dorothygale1104 2 жыл бұрын
How is the PGA Tour corrupt? Please explain with details vs. your unsupported claims. Are you even aware that the PGA Tour is a non-profit organization. Unlike MLB, NFL, NBA and every other pro sports league where the team owners cillectively own & control the leagues their te as ks play in, there are no owners of the PGA Tour who are making money off the backs of the players. The players are tge effective stakeholders in the PGA Tour. Whatever Phil has made from golf, only about 10% of it has come from tournament winnings with 90% coming from corporate sponsorships, which is the case for Tour players generally (see linked article from Forbes). These are the same corporate sponsors who sponsor the tournaments on the Tour by underwriting the purses and operating costs of staging the tournaments. Now, why do these various corporations shell out millions to put up the prize money, cover tournament expenses, and pay individual players to represent them? Answer: Because the Tour and players represent an effort focused on tournament operating surpluses (“profits”) benefiting local charities, instead of going to league owners as profit distributions. Since the Tour was founded in 1969, the PGA Tour has facilitated over $3 billion going to local charities from the operation of Tour tournaments. Name any other pro sports league that comes close to that level of charitable givingir. The goodwill gained from this charitable focus is why corporate sponsors are shelling out the money they do, as it creates a win-win-win situation for all parties involved, so much so that the Tour has a waiting list of companies that want to sponsor that are uin excess of tournaments the Tour conducts. This goodwill filters down to the players via the individual sponsorship deals signed by players with corporate sponsors. None of this would exist if the Tour was corrupt as you claim or there were profit-motivated people or entities who owned and controlled the Tour and pocketing profits. The entire premise of how the Tour and its tournaments, as well as how players attract sponsors, is based off a charitable giving focus that is the exact opposite of a corrupt operation. This is borne out by how quickly Phil lost every corporate sponsor when his comments became public, as his sponsors didn’t want to be associated with words and an image that is counter to what they were buying into what is represented by the Tour and players as a group. Phil utters total crap about the PGA Tour and you eat it up, as if any if it were true. Phil’s media rights claim is totally bogus as no player in any pro sport owns media rights to games they play in. What Phil didn’t say is that each and every year for the past 32 years Phil has signed over media rights to his image in Tour events just like every player does in order to play on the Tour. So, Phi isn’t being screwed by anybody; he signed his rights aaay each and every year fir 32 years. If media rights are splintered among players in any sport, then how can a league ever be able to negotiate media contracts? That is why no players in any sport own media rights. If owning media rights was a real thing for players, Tiger would be all over that because he drives media ratings infinitely more than Phil ever has. In fact, instead of bitching about the Tour, Phil should be kissing Tiger’s ass because the tournament purses have skyrocketed since Tiger came ibto the Tour to what they are now because of Tiger. Phil has been the biggest beneficiary of the Tiger-effect on the Tour’s purses over the last 25 years. Phil was on the Tour 8 years before Tiger and he wasn’t causing tournament purses to increase. Phil has already won a big-time lottery by riding off Tiger’s success and what that success has brought to the Tour. If Tiger never existed, Phil’s 45 wins would have yoelded far less prize money. Yet, instead of realizing he was extremely lucky to have played at a time when Tiger’s presence led to infinitely more money available for Phil to win, he thinks he is entitled to more. That is the definition of greed. Unlike the PGA Tour, which is a private entity and not owned, controlled or funded by the US government, either directly or indirectly, the LIV golf organization is owned, controlled & funded by the government of Saudi Arabia. No other pro sports league is owned, controlled & funded by the government of any country. Now, what would be the motivation for the government of Saudi Arabia to spend billions to form a new pro golf tour when that country has not been involved in golf throughout the history of the sport, is not a hotbed of golf interest or activity, has few courses in the country, and by-and-large its citizens don’t play or even know the game? And you think this is about competition lead to a better league?!?!?! Laughable. That’s All.

No one has told these PGA players they can’t go take the dirty Saudi money. They are free to do so, but the PGA, as a non profit and charitable institution also has the right to not allow certain players to play in their events. There are clauses in they by laws where they can ban players who do things detrimental to the PGA. Phil became the mouthpiece and helped draw up a rival league which would hurt the PGA. Why would the PGA allows any players these players back after not playing their events to take the Saudi instead this weakening the PGA tourney on conflicting dates?

@@richteisnert6827 The difference is that money a non-profit organization makes is given to charity, which is exactly why it is non/profit is short way of saying an organization is not for profit, as any money it makes goes to profit. Non/profit organizations don’t pay taxes on money they make because the money they make goes to charity. Last year, through the PGA Tour and the tournaments it operates distributed $250 million to local charities in the communities in which its tournaments are held. So, support the take down of the PGA Tour by a foreign government and you are supporting the take down of money going to support worthy charities all over the country.

Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson quit the PGA tour because of the PGA's supposed unethical monopoly, to join the Saudi Arabia backed golf tour. In addition to the Saudi's backing September 11th, Mohammed bin Salman murdered, dismembered, and put Jamal Khashoggi through a meat grinder but somehow backing this tyrannical regime is better than the PGA? Dustin Johnson made $74 million from the PGA tour but that's not enough. He's "doing what's best for him and his family." Phil squandered his millions of dollars away from gambling. Who's fault is this? The behavior of these golfers, putting greed above good, is reprehensible. Is this what they teach their children? Where the hell is their humanity? A comment that keeps being reiterated is that, "the U.S. commits human rights atrocities too." There is a huge difference. The PGA isn't run by the U.S. war machine. The PGA is an independently run organization and both Phil and Dustin have made hundreds of millions of dollars. If golfers squander their money away, it's their prerogative, but when they chase blood money it's a whole other issue. LIV is owned and operated by Mohammed bin Salman. The Saudi Royal Family owns Saudi Arabia.If Hitler started a golf league would these golfers play in it? They are, after all, simply "taking care of themselves and their families." If Phil and Dustin can't pay their bills, Starbucks is hiring. Their sh*t ain't gold.

Tiger wants what he wants, and he's saying they both can't get what they want, so choose, me, or Phil. Tiger is making a choice for everyone else, as all greed monsters do. Is this really funny? Not to me. You've got a big golfing champion on the tour who is severely addicted to gambling, has reportedly lost more than $50 million on that, and a PGA broadcaster who compromises his own job and network by participating in little bets during a tournament. Man, these people are warped. Gambling that is occasional and not obsessive, not conflicting with your work or family, is fine. But that's not what this is about. I had little respect for Mickelson, but in recent months I've lost even that. Now the guy is shilling for the Saudi tour and dissing the PGA that has made millions for him--millions he has blown again and again on his gambling addiction. He lost his caddie in part because of repeatedly stiffing the Jim McKay for what he was due, while Phil is blowing money on gambling. That's not funny; it's sick. Instead of chuckling about this habitual gambling action, I urge you to confront the implications of it for once.

Not to diminish the suffering that comes from gambling addiction, but is Phil not insulated a little from that by being wealthy? It's not like a guy betting his rent, which would not be cute at all. Not that this is, but side bets made during a tourney on the sly isn't sleazy or sad enough to warrant a somber tone. Now you can say that gambling addiction began a descent for Phil that forced him to chase money and eschew his reputation in the process. That's fair. But that doesn't mean every gambling anecdote involving Phil has to become a sad symposium on the dangers of gambling, either.

@@bennylevine387 You're trying to be moderate in response to PM's gambling history, which I can respect. But he has admitted his addiction is serious and caused him to seek therapy and go through many sessions to try to stop what he considers reckless and "humiliating". Yes, he's wealthy enough to absorb some losses, but when he's lost millions on his betting, it's clear that he is at least risking the financial security of his family as well as setting a terrible example for others who are in some way hooked on sports betting. He already had a reputation as a self-centered showboat, which some fans obviously find charming. I think it's repellent. Sure, there are some small-time gambling incidents I would consider harmless enough. But betting during a tournament and drawing in a paid golf commentary on the broadcasts puts their reputations at risk and sullies the image of the network, the tour and more. Problem is, I don't think Mickelson cared about such impacts until the stories came out in a way that exposed his addiction. It's all about Phil caring about Phil and little else.

So phil earns 100 mil on your in 30 years, paid probably 40mik in taxes and lost 50 mil gambling. I am guessing the wife pushed him to LIV to get "her" money back What a schmuck

Phil is really being thrown under the bus by his so called PGA friend's now that he's joining Liv Golf. Grow up PGA because soon both tour's will have to work side by side or you will lose more top player's. Monopoly had to end sometime

I think there is a lot of stuff that hasn’t come out about Phil yet. I know bones left him because he owed him so much money because of his gambling problem.

Gary McCord is a tool....you never snitch on a guy gambling in sports especially golf..something most golfers do regularly, he probably cost himself his own job by doing this and bragging about it, he is out of golf and doesnt care what he does to Phils career or family, if he was still calling PGA and Masters he would never tell this story...sad
