The PGA just proved there is none. My opinion is government, and defense spending/armaments are an extension of government, is the projection of diplomacy and power. That's why even though we all know how evil the Saudi government is with their involvement in 9-11, funding al Qaeda, chronic anti-American propaganda, Khashoggi murder and dismemberment (...the list is endless), a government still has to interact and deal with other governments, no matter how distasteful it might be. That's why we've always had and still have diplomatic relations with the Saudi's, over many administrations. They're still a power in the Middle East, and we as a nation can't ignore them. A golf league doesn't have that kind of symbiosis. The PGA doesn't have to kowtow to any company or entity it doesn't want to do business with. Jay Monahan said last year the PGA will never negotiate or bow to LIV and the Saudi's, and used moral arguments as his foundation. That's why this about-face merger, done in deep secrecy (which tells you a lot) was so fundamentally shocking and viewed as such a betrayal.

When players started leaving the PGA, Jay Manahan made a HUGE mistake by playing the "moral card". He basically divided everyone. The PGA was loosing players, revenue. Jay, basically failed by rejecting LIV instead of finding a way to work together. I know one group that has integrity and that is the Golf Channel.. I personally got Rush Limbaugh throw off the golf channel. I'm sure you all remember when Rush was on with Hank Haney.. Rush had mocked Connie Chung with a broken English accent mocking Chinese people. I wrote 17 letters to the Golf Channel including all the on air personalities that someone of his character and racism should not be promoted. I figured it fell on deaf ears. A couple of months later I saw my caller ID light up with the "golf Channel". The person then said to me that they got my letters and decided that Rush would never be on the Golf Channel again. When the reruns came on Rush was not included.

The merger isn’t with the pga and liv. The merger is the pga and the pif. Liv is funded through the pif. Liv will play out their 2023 schedule and then the better players will migrate back to the pga tour starting in 2024. The pif doesn’t need to justify to the ceo of liv how they spend their money.

I think the PGA is making a huge mistake. LIV golf was never a threat. Their tournaments rarely had moments of excitement which is something you see on the PGA tour almost weekly. I love watching golf but I couldn't make it through some of the LIV tournaments. Unless there were more yet unannounced departures from PGA to LIV I don't see how the PGA could cave in like this. A lot of the players on LIV are approaching the peak of their careers and they just wanted to close out strong in terms of money.

The problem I’ve always had with Liv is necessarily that it’s Saudi money, it was the purpose of the league. The purpose was to avert attention away from atrocities committed by the saudis and focus on presenting a new fresh, different perspective on a largely stagnant sport that wasn’t centered around the typical uptight country stereotype. Government and businesses, and average Americans have both intentionally and unintentionally been involved with Saudi money (PGA included) but Liv was a lie, “growing the game”. When the Saudis started the thing, they put Greg Norman in as their front man to oversee the operation because it would deflect attention. The 54 hole, team, no cut, and money for nothing format was also crap. Even though they have talent who can and have performed well, they could still shoot radio stations and people wouldn’t really care. The lack of authentic competition didn’t work and they had a bunch of tool bags like Dustin Johnson, dechambeau, brooks, Mathew wolff, phil, lee Westwood, schwarzel ect. I wish they didn’t do this, I’m not the type of person who’s only argument is “the blood money”, because in the real world everyone is out there for their own survival and personal enrichment. What really bothers me is when a organization created and solely funded by people who provided a dozen of the 9/11 hijackers hold a golf tournament a stone skip away from ground zero. @@AlastairBarker I guess you didn't read the news today that pretty much confirmed it? The PGA was doubly fucked. First, they could have lost over a billion in a lawsuit. And second, major sponsors were pulling out left and right after Monahan increased the purses for tournaments in a desperate attempt to keep other players from fleeing to LIV. AT&T pulled out of the Byron Nelson saying "Uhhh...we never said we were going to give you more money."

The NFL absorbed the AFL, the NHL absorbed the WHA, the NBA absorbed the ABA. All of these mergers made football, hockey and basketball better because the best competed against the best. While the morality of LIV being sports whitewashing of despicable human rights violations cannot be forgiven, and the players who joined LIV in spite of those moral issues, did so because they were motivated by the greed of money, it is time to move on! What professional athlete does not play for money? Every time we watch a football game, a basketball game, a baseball game and a hocky game we are watching millionaires at play. Money is what motivates every professional golfer. That is why there are sponsors and prize money! That is why we and the media talk about the drama of the $250,000 putt etc.! So accept the truth, but find reconciliation so I can see Dustin take on John Ram, Brooks take on Scheffler, Phil take on Rory etc. without all the internecine comments. At some point these guys have to stuff their pride, emotional immaturity and silly rhetoric and just get on with playing golf! Cut the drama, get to the inherent beauty of the sport.

Golf is a professional sport like any other professional sport. The bottom line of professional sports is to make money. The PGA golfers, I'm specifically pointing out is McElroy, Woods, Thomas, Speith and a few others, talked negatively, I'll even go so far as to say nastily about the LIV Golfers that made the decision to leave the PGA tour and play for the Saudi backed golf organization. Those golfers who made the move to LIV golf and exercised a fundamental element of being an American, which is CAPITALISM. Those PGA golfers mentioned earlier are now in a bad situation. They're angry and they certainly should be. Not at the PGA, not at LIV golf, not at the golfers who signed multi million dollar contracts along with franchise deals with LIV golf that will net them continued millions in the future. Those PGA golfers should be angry with themselves. Those PGA golfers are right now at this very moment contemplating their very stupid decision. They aren't necessarily hurt about the money or the betrayal by the PGA. They are hurting because they understand that all over the United States, actually in every country that golf is played, the men and women sitting in their living rooms talking about what an incredibly dumb decision those golfers made and how they are laughing at them. That's happening because of the crude jokes pointing directly at those individuals. Golfers are primarily made of men and women who enjoy an element of respect that's afforded to them outside of their prowess as an athlete. Those PGA golfers have lost possibly forever that respect from the fans because of their lack of understanding that golf at it's base level is about Capitalism and money. Hence, the decision just made by the PGA to merge with LIV golf. The next part of this story is sitting back the next two years while watching McElroy, Woods, Thomas, Speith and other PGA golfers eat crow and turn into complete hypocrites.

@DanielSong39 I'm not a fan of Good Good. I don't watch their stuff. I have perused their tournament. Luke Kwon is my dude. I followed him long before Good Good, but I haven't watched any of his videos that include Good Good members. I just don't like Good Good. Outside of Kwon I think they are all hacks. Even the 2 johan shitzlowskis' that left. No thanks. But I am up for mini tour golf. I want to see guys literally playing for their livelihood, not a bunch of millionaires whining about course conditions and how unfairly they are treated.
