I was following Phil in a pro-am 5 years ago. Lousy weather, no media and about 20 people following along. A woman in the small gallery was wearing a cancer survivor shirt. After a few holes, Phil stepped over the ropes and gave her a big hug right in front of me. I sure became a big Phil fan that day.

He had just played a poor last round at Loch Lomond Scotland, but it didn't stop him coming all the way over to where the kids and some adults were gathered. He spent a good while signing autographs, chatting and handing out balls, club covers etc. He even made a point of ensuring that he hadn't missed anyone, before he left for the clubhouse. An amazing golfer and a true gentleman.

I worked the last US Open at Oakmont, while Phil was warming up he reached for a water in a cooler and I yelled "how about me?" and he tossed me a cold bottle of water. Truly one of the best golfers who's never forgotten the little guys.

This is why I love Phil. Obviously he wants to win, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. He's such a down to earth person that the average person can relate to. He's just a regular guy, but just happens to play golf about as well as anyone who's ever played. Just imagine how many young kid's will have a story to tell about Phil later in life.

Real Detective51 prior to the 2013 Us Open his daughter was graduating Junior high. So he flew out to California to attended the graduation and then flew back to Pennsylvania to play at Merion. It was that open that made me a Phil fan

This guy is so nice.. know someone who took care of the locker room at Copperhead when he played when it was the Chrysler Championship ..I don't know if he likes the track because I don't think he's been back much...But, .he left an enormous tip for the locker room attendants over a grand and could not have been nicer...signing autographs and taking pictures and on and on...Phil is the real deal...so nice and such a great credit to the PGA Tour...

I followed him from hole to hole in the final round of the 2007 PGA championship in Tulsa and in a span of about 6 holes he probably gave 6-10 kids different items of his ranging from balls, tees gloves etc. It was pretty awesome.

Took my now ex wife to the Memorial in ‘99. We sat and watched Phil and Corey Pavin hit balls on the range for what seemed like an eternity. It was late in the afternoon, so not too many people around. They walked off the range and Phil just started up a conversation like it was no big deal. He earned my respect big time back then and I think he’s one of the greats like Arnold Palmer. Phil’s Army.
