Ive applied to do a SCITT/School direct course over a uni led PGCE because I personally learn better hands on. Also with my classroom experience, the fact that Im classed as a mature student (39) and a career changer I felt that this option of study was the best for me. I didnt want to spend anymore time in uni i just want to get going. I know some people have chosen uni led as they don't have much classroom experience or they want to be part of the whole uni culture, or they feel that they want to have more theory based learning before being 'thrown in' to teaching. If I had to do uni led as that was the only option then I would as I want to teach so much. I guess the beauty of having several routes into teaching allows people with all learning types achieve their goal. p.s. Love watching your videos!!!

I'm taking the SCITT route for most of the reasons you mentioned! After much time spent at uni and doing a masters I really didn't want to go down the uni route again! Of course we still attend training/lectures with the other teacher trainees but it doesn't feel like we're attending university again! Good luck with your application and thank you so much for watching my videos! 😊

I’ve got my PGCE Secondary English interview tomorrow and I found your channel through researching interview tips! Not sure how I’m feeling yet but I’m sure there’ll be more nerves tomorrow 🥴😂

I think a PGCE is a better option for those who have no or limited experience in schools where as a scitt/SD is more suitable for those with experience on schools. In terms of workload, as a trainee teacher I haven’t done much work apart from some planning. You’re doing an amazing job. X

I agree! The workload is quite manageable for now - I won't be saying this once I get started with my assignment 😅 thank you so much for watching! x

I’m doing the PGCE at the moment and tbh I am thinking maybe I should have gone the SCITT route because it’s just been two months of lectures, which I feel like we’ve missed out on the start of term and we won’t be able to experience that now. Going into placement after half term when the kids are settled is going to be different, but I am excited to finally get the practical started as I have heard enough of the theories now😂

You may be okay with it once you go on placement! But I agree, I wouldn't want to miss out on the start of term. I see it as a vital time to get to know your class and the school. But either way, the PGCE and SCITT are both amazing experiences!

@@cherscoolbeans yes I think there are pros and cons to both tbh so you just gotta think about what you would prefer best. I picked the PGCE so I could learn more about the theories first but at the same time I think I would have learned more by being thrown in the deep end early on. Either way it’s going to be a good experience! And like yourself I have made good friends on the course too so it’s very supportive! Good luck on your journey, you’re doing amazing!

If someone don't have any experience working with children, it will be very difficult to be in a class from 1st day. What are your thoughts on it?
@cherscoolbeans3 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree! But this may be more difficult if you begin working with the children a few weeks after the school year has already started! They're already settled and have a routine and it may be hard to change this if you are introduced as their other class teacher a couple weeks/months into the school year.

I was considering doing a Scitt before after being a teaching assistant/1:1 for almost four years but I didn't had the confidence to go for it. I felt like a PGCE personally suited me better because of the slower process into teaching and I wanted to gain a thorough and theoretical understanding behind teaching. The PGCE route is intense but I am also enjoying it.Despite having a lot of experience I enjoy exploring different schools. I think it also depends on how much support you feel like you are able to receive before chosing the best route for you.The SENDCo in my former school acknowledged that SCITT route is the best route because you are in the class room from day one but she also admitted that it's a hard route whilst with the PGCE you spend a lot of time at uni and don't gain the practical experience as much. Ultimately, I believe both route aren't easier than the other and it comes down to preference and what is best for you. There are also people in my course who have no experience in teaching or barely any and they felt that a PGCE is the best route for them. There are also people who have a good amount of experience in teaching and are doing the PGCE.

You make some amazing points! I just know I'd find it hard to adapt to the constant change - I like routine 😅 But I guess it makes you more versatile in the long run! Also, with the theorerical understanding I don't believe its always necessary to know it! There are so many amazing TAs and other school staff who are great at working with children all because of their experiences rather than learning a theory.

@@cherscoolbeans Thank you for your response and for hearing out my points. Yes you are right theoretical knowledge isn't always necessary, personally though I find the theoretical aspect interesting, I actually thought that I wouldn't enjoy theory aspect of it. It allows me to see things from a different perspective. I thought I would just mainly be interested in the practical aspect initially. The experience I've had is an added bonus. If I was confident I would have gone for the Scitt but I am not a confident person hence why I feel the PGCE is the best option for me. Your choice of route depends on how best you work as a person. I also don't mind change as I like to see how different schools operate. I think both options are a great route into teaching, Personally I don't think the PGCE is a lesser value than Scitt. It depends on on your experience and how confident you feel about teaching before you choose the right route for yourself.Even if you don't have experience in teaching/little you will be able to gain that experience over a period time. Thank you for your argument in your video, you made very good points about why a Scitt course is better and your argument are valid. I am not disagreeing with you, I just wanted to highlight a few points to you as someone who is doing a PGCE. I always enjoy watching your KZbin content as a fellow trainee teacher 💖💖.

No route has lesser value over the other and as you said, your choice of route definitely depends on how you work! As a person who likes routine, the SCITT course is the best for me! I've enjoyed hearing about your experience and which you prefer. Thank you so much for joining in this discussion! Either way we are going to be sucessful by the end our courses! 💖💖
