Hey why doesn't the US Fed use the expertise of "Rag" ram Rajan who is sitting in the US and pontificating on everything Indian . Being a US tax payer , and if he has the magic wand he has ..how come he did not see this coming ...nor has he made any suggestions . Maybe institutions in the US are " too big " to pontificate . Suggest he stick to resolving issues there before shooting off across the globe .

1 more thing for ppl asking for bonds to be held till maturity. 1. You have to account for MTM losses and make provisions and that costs capital. 2. You loose lot on interest rates, opportunity costs, when you have 2% coupon bonds and CMY is 4.5%! 3. When bank is run, its duty of Treasury of the bank to provide liquidity and they have to sell bonds held in portfolio. They have to sell this bonds at available price and add to that low liquidity on long term bonds is nothing short of disaster. HTM doesn't work in practical life.

Your collective heartburn over the Hindenburg Report is understandable. But using that as an excuse, for the two of you to gloat over the potential speculative impact reports on SVB’s collapse exposes your collective lack of understanding of the banking system in the US, and that’s both pitiable and laughable. Please consider the following factors: 1. SVB’s collapse was mainly triggered by its own terrible lending policies and disastrous investment decisions. Plenty of evidence in the public domain. What was their Board of Directors doing being asleep at the wheel? 2. FDIC is capitalized as well as insured enough to withstand this SVB collapse and also to manage any collateral damage. And the risks are far less than in the case of Washington Mutual’s collapse, which the banking system was able to absorb and sail through. 3. No federal bailout is proposed or deemed necessary. And the Fed is monitoring the fallout carefully. All the sideshow cribs about Signature, Silvergate, Hindenburg, Adani, stock market fluctuations in SVB’s shares or other bank shares, etc. are laughable. Please grow up, learn, and get serious in your analysis and portrayal on serious matters. Thank you!!

Mr Narasimhan no doubt has a lot of domain knowledge but he is not able to present facts in a way that lay people are able to comprehend easily. I invite both Sri Iyer & him to see the video of Sean Foo on the SVB issue & its ramifications, & you'll see what I mean. No offence, gentlemen.

Great update : 1. Any numbers on how many Bharat startup funds in SVB? 2. Personally think the US regulatory authority on financial markets are far better than that in Bharat. Like Rahul Gandhi, Bharat keeps redoing it's regulatory structure as a knee jerk - one during Harshad Mehta scam, another during Satyam scam, next during Vijay Mallaiya Nirav Modi scam, who knows tomorrow may be a Dayanidhi -Sabareesan scam!!?? The main actors some slip away. This (think) happens less in US? 3. On unrealized loss on bonds yet to mature - think there would be a disclosure requirement in quarterly/annual financials? Money flowed into the bank during the pandemic. Buying the shortest-term Treasuries or holding the deposits in cash would have insulated the Bank from the risk of rising interest rates. But it also would have depressed their profits. Banks’ reach for “safe” yield by purchasing long term bonds in a US led recklessly into war by the Biden regime did the Bank in, as it is doing Britain and the EU countries, particularly Germany, in:

Question really comes down to risk Vs unknown. Where just anything is possible at anytime is perhaps unknown (or not knowable?) and risk is something one can be reasonably certain about. In the case of SVB, risk would be 10% against bailout ( = 90% in favour of survival with bailout). The whole arena becomes inverse just like wearing the clothes inside out and it is fashionable to do so. 🤸🤠🤔 $600+ B is way beyond Adani which is just about $150- B. Is it something like, 'A scam in US economy is nobody's business where as disproportionate share holding by the businesses elsewhere is a big scandal that a tiny short selling entity like Hindenberg from US scoops out and makes money too out of the mischief!' 🤠👌 India needs 10 more Adani like groups who can of course be contained and be brought to fall in line. Otherwise $10T target by 2030 will just be a fading dream. Raghuram Rajan has sounded that Indian economy is definitely drifting towards the Hindu Rate of Growth. Jai Hind!

The greed for exchange gains is what's making people invest in dollars and lose their capital. On the contrary banks in India are stable without major exchange gains, but the capital remains intact. This is where people are penny wise and pound foolish.

Maybe eight years ago, after Greece and Iceland went unexpectedly bankrupt, a Scottish accountant saw $600,000 had disappeared from a school board account. That was traced through the European Union to a financial institution on Wall Street. After sharing this observation and technique with world leaders those types of rampant financial crimes stopped.

@@bencherdent1696 I am Clan Watt, only of Scots ancestry. And I'm only publishing the reality. A friend of mine, Professor John McCallum, Electronics at York University, Toronto, signed a one-year contract with China. He went over to help build their internet and write their university curriculum. He decided China would be best served by having a sovereign internet, able to shut of the rest of the world, if they wanted to. They were the first country to have that. At the time, three Toronto universities were linked to the "information highway", each paying $50,000 a year. American internet signal has two main components, one for the end user, and one used to monitor the user and access their excess capacity, what the C.I.A. called "piggy-backing". When Jimi Hendrix hired an English electrical inventor to duplicate that as a guitar effect, seeing it as a U.S. Air Force radar technician, he called it phase-shifting.
