Ha-ha, inside - outside. Continuity! Man, I'm so impressed with Zip sheathing! I'd love your insight on using Zip-R vs Zip and then on outside apply InSoFast insulation. Foam touches Foam, touches Foam, ... ! 😎 Haha, that black goo! Based on your recommendations back then, we also used Tremco Acoustic Sealant anywhere on exterior where wood touched wood as well. It was messy! Cheers, Eric

@StevenBaczekArchitect , I wish you would talk about how the ceiling to attic was air sealed. Many thanks for your info!

I hope when we get t rain screen, there is some details about the top of the sheeting. Most info out there is about where it drains out near the sill plate. Noone talks about how air gets out the top when the sun heats the siding.

I'm trying to figure out the changes/modifications to the PH standards for my zone (Arizona mountains, I think it's zone 4, but I'm borderline and may be in zone 3). I'll bet there'a a lot of other folks out there that want to know how to adapt these standards. What are the differences for a marine climate? What should you design for in high-wind situations? What designs will protect me from fire? (I'm building in a fire canyon.) What do I do when European windows are simply out of reach? Can I use storm windows? You get the idea.

How about dropping a link for the acoustical sealant your are referring to?

Always a lot of great information Steve!!! Do you happen to have a check list of things that you always do/mandatory (in your mind), like that acoustic sealant, for example, that you could share with us? Also I have seen several different ways that you do exterior walls, double walls, exterior insulation, several different types of insulation, what determines that? Thanks for everything that you do and thanks for the leadership and knowledge that you share with us.

I do have a virtual checklist - but it gets tuned to the project

I would argue that an unconditioned attic isn't inside the building... If the eave vents were 2' wide and made of metal mesh so that they were easily seen though, no one would argue that the roof wasn't just an umbrella over the home, and that the building stopped at the second floor ceiling. The detail is harder to see with a suble eave vents but its still there. Edit: question about the acoustic sealant... Is that a detail you would still recommend, or is the best practice now taping/liquid flashing the zip to the foundation wall?

How do you wrap a vapor barrier if I am going to have a crawl space. Does the flooring if I caulk the joints act as enough of a air retardant to pass a blower door test
