Enjoying this video series! I can't remember which video it was where you showed the orientation of the mostly windowed elevation toward the south, so I'll ask my related question here: All else being equal, if you were building this plan in South Florida, would you face that mostly glass elevation north instead of south? If so, at what U.S. latitude would such a flip generally occur for passive houses?

Most likely

I am so glad to work in moderate climates and not concern myself with theses details.

Agree! My rooms with un-insulated slabs get rugs with thick pads. No a/c needed in the summer! I love a design with lots of thermal mass inside the insulated enclosure but insulating slab edges in termite and ant country isn’t a great idea.

That and I'm glad I don't have to factor seismic loads for my construction.

Thanks Steven! I would like to see a video on how you would build this house knowing what you know now.

Thanks for the idea!

Great idea... I would like to see what details would change vs stay the same.

One of the consequences of the double layer is that it becomes difficult or impossible to inspect within that 2’ thickness. In my house it would fill up with rodents, and then how do you get in there to do cleaning and repairs?

With an air tightness of 0.6 ACH 50, I wouldn't expect to even see ants in the house let alone mice.

I assume you are in a very cold climate zone. Don't you want exterior insulation to protect the footings?

tHE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN PUSHED OUTSIDE THE CONDITIONED AREA

The house is an insulated box sitting on top of concrete.

Thanks. I thought people put an apron of insulation to prevent heaving in the foundation. I don't live or work in a place that cold, so I don't know for certain.@@stevenbaczekarchitect9431
