Inaccurate headline: the PH envoy said “not a SURE pathway,” hindi “not a path to PR”. Magkaiba ‘yun. There are provinces that have PR streams exclusive for international students. It is a pathway, but not guaranteed bec the intl student needs to meet certain points to be invited for permanent residency.

I also have a feeling that Canada will follow the British new law as well when it comes to family sponsorship, where you need to make at least 70-80k CAD to bring your family here..

Canada has a wide space to fill in by people and canada needs more people to pay tax.

7 years ago, I came to Canada as int'l student. I went through the immigration process from student visa, to student work visa, to working visa, to permanent residence visa to Canadian citizen within 5 years. I would say hindi madali ang lahat, in every stages there is always that challenge. But I am backed up with a good credentials and good numbers of work experience from Pinas and other countries as well. In my personal view.. your solid goal, humility, patience, preparedness both physical, mental and emotional is what really can sustain you through adversity... and yes ... prayers.

I came to Canada as an intl student at 20 yrs old due to health reasons na walang agency agency. So far coming here, I’m asthma free for 10 yrs na pwera lang pag uuwi ulit sa pinas for vacation. Idk but I was the youngest intl student in my campus, most are young families and on their 40’s. Looking back, I can say wag na po kayo pumunta. If you can work 2 or 3 jobs while sacrificing your family time dahil literal po na wala kayong pahinga 365 days ay hindi ko po kayo pipigilan. Plus you won’t be able to spend more time sa family mo kasi busy ka kakakayod.

Wouldn't it be better for the Philippine government to create decent jobs and have decent labour laws so that Filipinos don't have to leave the country? If you are a Filipino person and come to Canada to work at 7-Eleven you are not doing better than in the Philippines. I know so many Filipinos working in Canada in low level menial jobs , often working 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet and when you ask them when the last time they have been home they often say 8 or 10 years ago. Canada is a very expensive country to live in and 5 month of the year you have to live in the cold freezing weather. So ask yourself before you come do you have the skills to earn over a $100,000 a year? If you only have the skills to earn $40,000 a year, you probably are better off looking for job in the Philippines earning 40,000 Pesos a month.

Henry Ford the founder of the Ford Motor company offered his workers $5.00 a day which was several times the going rate, the reason was that he wanted to build a middle class to purchase his Model T. I am a businessman and I don't see no benefit to have a permanent underclass. The Philippines needs to focus on its skills. Garment factory workers will never be paid well. The number one problem the Philippines has it has a culture of mediocrity until you change that the Philippines will never be prosperous. I've been coming to the Philippines for 38 years and spent winters here for the last 18 and it is disheartening how poorly things are done. Even go to the Ayala malls and the washrooms are never in top shape. Half the urinals don't flash. I am in Mindanao now and our Gaisano grocery store is a disgrace, loose tiles on the super market floor nothing is being fixed. The other issue is when I came to the Philippines in 1986, even the poor people could understand basic English, now you have people who can't even answer the most basic words. I asked a guy the other day " WHERE DOES THIS ROAD GO ? as I was driving around the hills of Mount Apo. He couldn't even answer a simple question like that? What can you do with people like that buy use them as farm labourers?@@michaeljunior1445

That’s the point. Their main purpose of “coming to Canada” is not to “get an education” but to use that as a “frontal mask” to permanent residency which is their main purpose. Canadian student visa has a “dual intent” provision that allows them to adjust status. American student visa (J-1) has none. You come as a student, you go back when you’re done! That’s why it’s not popular with Filipinos because they can never be permanent residents with J1. That alone proves their purpose is not education. It’s immigration.
@USA-CANADA1480
@USA-CANADA1480 10 ай бұрын
That’s the point: It’s now unaffordable for them to come to Canada or US to get a Canadian or American Education. Besides. The main purpose of them coming to Canada is not to study but to be permanent residents because Canadian immigration allows for dual intent on student visas.

Yong first two years na subjects natin sa college ay pang grade 11 at 12 lang sa kanila, like psychology, calculus, accounting, org and inorg chemistry, college physics, politics, and etc are being taken in grades 11 and 12 if the students are university bound applicants. So if the local student pays 7k canadian dollar tuition per year, the international student pays around 19k or more denpending on the program he or she is taking. After graduation, your certificate is not an absolute guarantee that you can land job. Di uso doon na nagbibigay ka ng transcript of records pag nag-aapply ka ng trabaho kundi Diploma or certificate lang, at doon makikita ng hiring employer ang academic standing mo sa pamamagitan ng "with distinction and high distinction" na nakasulat sa certificate.

@@elledelavin7648 yong grade 12 na galing sa atin ang di tatangapin except for the graduates of international schools in PH, because the curriculum is exactly the same in Canada.

All I am saying is that kailangan natin ang cultural shift of Pinoys investing sa Pinas imbes na pagalis sa iba't ibang bansa. Kapag umalis ang mga napakasipag, matatalino, at matatapat, what is there left at home and who is left to govern? Pinoys who have had the privilege and experience of abroad living need to bring those skills and perspectives back sa bayan, otherwise nothing improves here. If anything, dapat lang silang bumoto.

Walang humaharang but it’s train wreck waiting to happen from the get go. We came here as PR so from experience kahit may income napaka hirap dahil may bills at mataas standard of living. I cannot imagine coming as student. Parang may tumatagas pag nag-student pathway ka instead of money coming in may palabas. In fact mas mabilis ang palabas kesa napasok dahil napaka taas ng matrikula as international student approx half a million pesos per semester. Ever since ang international student pathway ay para sa “can afford” lang. Mag-succeed ka man imagine the stress from hours you put in tapos ginastos mo pa na $$$. Overall, it’s not worth it investment.

@@shoshanas5251Right?! Challenge na nga as PR eh what more as an intl student. Bahala sila, basta they have been forewarned.
