Gogo, the covering of the head is an ancient practice in India as well.... It's a way for us as human beings to protect the subtle energies of the Crown Chakra. When we pray, chant, pahla and meditate, our Crown Chakra opens wide and the covering of the head with a natural cloth or shawl or doek (men and women) is a way to cucoon and 'brew' the subtle energies inside so the mind does not scatter. Blessed be. Sat Nam. Lesedi. Thokozani Bo Gogo. Ryan Edmonds

Heard someone asking if Zimbabweans can phahla. Yes it's part of our culture too. Kunonzi kukumbirira. Kukumbirira kuvadzimu vedzindza rako. In isindebele from Zim sithi yikuthethela amadlozi. Translation for ukuphahla. We also use snuff. I know three types fodya(snuff) rematare, rehondo, ne mudombo. Esindebeleni kule Bute lo mdombo. 😊

New sub GoGo. I left Zim 30 years ago for UK. My great grandfather was a Lemba from SA. I know nothing about my ancestry. I want my children to be cleansed. I am 'losing my girls' gogo. They have become too British, but my son can't wait to finish his PhD so that he can to Africa and live among his own people. Please pray for my family.

Consider starting with home language. We’re MARINATED in Western culture and we’re MARINATED in a culture that promotes an African inferiority complex. Although it seems negligible, language is the first step. Not sure what language the Lemba speak but I know that they are the original Jews and Hebrews. Shona should be spoken more at home. This is also a message to other parents who speak English at home. You’re not growing the child’s conceptual understanding of their heritage by using English. Language is not only a medium of communication, it’s a way to translate concepts. Certain concepts exist only in certain languages. The English stop at a sociobiological level and they say ‘ancestors’ but when you speak isiZulu there’s idlozi, amathongO and amathongA. Each of those words refer to a different concept. When you utter these words and question their meaning, you learn more African concepts and if your African mother tongue is your first language you’ll always use it as the benchmark to compare external concepts. If you have a Shona name, the children must start using that Shona name. Children do as you do, not as you say.

Thokoza Gogo Dineo. Thank you very much. It is informative, interesting, useful. Though it is my first time watching your video I feel like having heaven and earth. I have been always thinking who can help me with the proper words uma uphahla. Though I didn't know what is the best way of communicating with the ancestors, I did have the feeling that I should be doing it with my whole heart, spirit and mind. And I am glad you mentioned that. That was breath taking. Akwande.

Thokozani Gogo, ndiyabulela for such an informative session ngokuphahla kwatsho kwakhanya. I would like you to clarify a few things, it will be my first time to ukuphahla: 1. Can I pray before and/or after uphahla? 2. What can I use if andinalo ikhukho(icantsi)? 3. What do I do with the offerings (alcohol, fruit, sweets and money) after ndigqiboku phahla, especially when I have to pack up after 24 hours ndiphahlile? 4. Can I use frankincense and myrrh resins if I don’t have impepho or incense sticks? 5. Do I have to burn the candles completely in one phahlaring session, if not can I reuse them for the next session? Thokoza Gogo, makwande

Gogo tha k you for the education questions: 1. When exactly do I offer the drinks or food -Before speaking my intention or after I've called upon them? 2. If I've offered fruit, can I eat it with them while I'm meditating after speaking to them or should I leave everything there untouched for 24 hours.
