দক্ষিন এশিয়ার খনিজ সম্পদে ভরপুর একটি দেশ আফগানিস্তান । ধারনা করা হয় দেশটিতে ১ ট্রিলিয়ন ডলারের বেশি খনিজ সম্পদ রয়েছে । দেশটিতে বিপুল পরিমান লিথিয়ামের মজুদ রয়েছে । এজন্য আফগানিস্তানকে লিথিয়ামের সৌদি আরব হয়ে থাকে । সম্প্রতি আফগানিস্তানের উত্তরাঞ্চলীয় সারপোল প্রদেশে একটি তেলের খনি আবিষ্কার হয়েছে । আফগানিস্তানের উত্তরাঞ্চলীয় সারপোল ও ফারিয়াব প্রদেশে তিনটি তেলের খনি রয়েছে। এসব খনিতে আট কোটি ৭০ লাখ ব্যারেল তেলের মজুদ রয়েছে বলে ধারণা করা হয়।

Afghanistan has three oil fields in the northern provinces of Sarpol and Faryab. These mines are estimated to have reserves of 8.7 million barrels of oil.
