I am absolutely obsessed with this orchid and need it as much as I need air. I am also not afraid of anthocyanin; I regularly push light levels on my truly epiphitic orchids until I see that tinge of purple appear in places. That's how I know the light is just right.

I got my Phal. (mannii Dark x speciosa) Schwerte when I saw yours few years ago. She turned from spotty red to pure red after a month. I love seeing freckles red on my orchid

- That's a very beutiful orchid! I love your videos and have been a subscriber for a long time. Sometimes I binge watch (hope I've got the correct spelling) your videos. So I became a member instantly when I heard about you starting that. If it had been a few years back I couldn't have afforded it but now I can. I have learnt so much from you and I love orchids. Thank You for doing this and please don't stop! 😂 /Lisbeth from Sweden 🇸🇪

I’m glad you made this video. Where I work I just unpacked one of our orchid deliveries and one in the box of 20 was this color. I had no idea why. It is so pretty. It also has purple flowers.

Phalaenopsis Salu's Fragrancy gets gorgeous reddish-purple leaves. Even in very low light mine continues to push out beautifully colored leaves. The flowers are amazing as well, with a very sweet, citrusy fragrance in the mornings into the afternoon.

I've got a few in my collection that get more red than others. There is one in particular that I'm rehabbing and every new leaf starts put a deep, dark, purple/red. Also using grow lights. Personally, I love it!

Danny, I have a crush in this beauty! Stunning color. My Phal Schrilliana (please excuse the spelling) has some very deep purple root tips, so pretty!

Thank you, Danny!! That explains the phalaenopsis I have with quite a bit of red. It’s not as much as yours, but still a little compared to the others under the same conditions.

I have a few hybrid phals that get some red on their leaves, but nothing near like that one you have. And their flowers do all have either fuschia or purple on their flowers.

I have had orchids go pale yellow-green all over in reaction to too much light (even just grow lights). Moving them out from under the direct grow light brought the green back. It's a lighter green because it's a pale flower and lacks so much anthocyanin, but the two it happened to are perfectly healthy.

I have a mini phal with red leaves as well. I think it is perfectly normal. But the flowers are a light pink. I think it is cool looking. I think it might be from the light who knows.

I depend on all temperature and light conditions that mother nature has to offer to grow my orchids, and have noticed that, if I leave some orchids outside (*cough forgot to bring them indoors during the winter months) then I will get red pigmentation of the anthocyanin that came from being exposed to the cold temperature that xyz orchid could not tolerate. Luckily, with that visual I am reminded NOT to do that again 😅 someone looking at the cold stress related anthocyanin would not be able to tell the difference to the way anthocyanin is a result of high light. However, I being the caretaker, I know why it happened and when. Luckily it is a one off heads up from the orchid saying 'hey! Don't do that again!' 🫣😅

Great topic! Thank you, Danny, for the useful info. I got my Phal. mannii black x speciosa from Schwerter for 15 euros a year ago, flowering size (!). She has 2 flower spikes that continuously grow. The leaves of my orchid are not entirely red as yours but rather have big splotches of red (I too grow it under the Barrina lights) and I don’t believe it’s a genetic glitch - that’s the way this cross is. Regarding the protective role of the anthocyanin from cold temperatures (I refer only to orchids here) - I strongly agree. I had two summer blooming phals sitting on the lowest shelf , almost floor lever (experiencing the cold draft from outside when we opened the terrace door), placed at the bottom of the shelf, near an еxterior wall and this winter the upper leaves got a bit red/pink on the underside, and they were very cool to the touch. We all know that the polychilos type phals love the warmth, so when I moved them to a warmer spot, the red/pink tinge disappeared. So definitely anthocyanin can be seen as a signal for cool temperatures!

My dendrobiums specifically my tailand black and chocolate chip turn completely purple under my grow lights. My grow space is in my basement so it’s a little cooler than the rest of my house. My phals and catts get a little bit of color but no where near as drastically

Hi Dani. Nice ears. I enjoy your channel. My one Orchid has awful terrible growing brown spots on the top 3 leaves only. It had a rough trip in the cold. And arrived water logged unknown to me. I unpotted and dried the roots. But afraid that too much sun after that.

Hi Danny, I love your channel and all of the information you have for orchids. I love orchids but always failed at keeping them alive. I recently bought 2 from home depot on sale. One of them wasn't in its best condition but I bought it anyway. I cleaned away all of the dead branches added new medium bark. I also watered them well. After a few days the both of them started to drop buds and the leaves have fell limp. How can I help them? I also just got a new orchid at lows for 10 dollars, I'm afraid to repot it because the flowers are so beautiful. It has 2 stems of flowers. The problem is that it is in a compacted medium. I'm scared that if I repot it, it will began to drop buds and the leaves will wilt. Should I repot it anyway?

I feel like its the Phal mannii that is making the purple leaves given how its light requirements are much lower then the Phal speciosa and that this is a primary hybrid. Now does that mean anything bad for the orchid? nah, it just means I want to get a mannii more then before and I am not going to freak out when the leaves turn purple

Hello there! I have recently Bought a Phalenopsis. It was night time and when I bought it and I did not notice the discoloration of the leaves, then I have noticed that the Moss was bone dry T-T do you guys have tips on how to take care of it? It is my first Phal to shrivel and fall off from the cabinet :c (also, it was hella expensive for a unhealthy phal)
