You I love these breakdowns! One thing I think about these fights is that they really highlight the characters of Goku and Vegeta. Vegeta likes to dominate in his fights, and so the second Broly starts pushing him, he transforms. Goku on the other hand likes to be pushed, and fights on the edge, so he only transforms when it becomes clear there’s no way to keep up in his current form. Just kinda interesting how much character can be shown in fight sequences

Goku vs Broly had me feeling scared, dude. Broly unleashes some serious brutality against Goku and Goku clearly underestimated the savagery that he was dealing with. It's a perfect development of the action, though, because it sets the stage for Gogeta to outmatch Broly. First, you get Vegeta kicking Broly's ass. Then, Broly kicks Goku's ass. Then, Broly powers up more and seems unstoppable. These are all great moves to subvert the audience's expectations and then bring in the wow factor with the escalating power levels. It's seriously an amazingly scripted film and it's 90% fast paced action.

Damn, this and the Vegeta one, didn't actually notice a lot of these details you mention! Like Vegeta pushed Broly to adapt to Vegeta's Super Saiyan God form, so of course Goku was asking to get kinda rolled / not land many clean hits. When I initially watched the movie it just seemed like Goku continued from where Vegeta left off and somehow managed to keep up the pace, but you showed that this isn't the case at all, and Broly was getting right through Goku's defence until Goku actually powers up to his God form like Vegeta did. Came for the meme, stayed for the accurate analysis! Good shit.

Between the two videos breaking down the fights, I noticed something about the way Vegeta and Goku fight, that I’m sure others have too. Vegeta is like an artist who is formally trained in the art and his motion is precise and articulate, yet it lacks passion, despite him being a passionate man. Goku is like an artist informally trained, one who just took up the craft because something within drew him to it. He’s capable of abstract designs and considerations, he’s willing to let the piece tell him where the next strike of “paint” should be; yet he lacks precision. He’s all passionate might. Like an artist who smokes weed to feel the muse.

And though opinions may vary, DBZ was dope and the ape form should be retcon’d and replaced with SS4 alto augment any form of SS1 to UI, by transforming into the cereal state. I digress. The reason I mentioned DBZ fan’s relationship to the series is to point out a few points to help support the view I shared. 1. Goku is designed to be the protagonist and a good example, despite his major faults; he’s no wise guru turning the other cheek. He’s brash and irresponsible; he has abandoned his family for training and fighting, permitted enemies to reach max strength, and has often taken L’s because he learns best and returns best after a firm booty whooping. 2. Vegeta has worked just as hard and grown just as strong as Goku; SS3 being the only elusive form and for good reason, it’s obsolete in a energy guzzler. And let’s not forget, Goku still “technically” hasn’t won a fight against Vegeta! 3. The history of these characters shows one is uniformed and well trained before he lost his father - Vegeta. While the other was never trained by or knew his father; killing the only father figure and trainer he had at a young age due to the (retarded) ape form. I’m conclusion, Goku has destroyed his body (kioken), allowed others to beat his ass, and allowed the death of friends just to gain proper motivation to power up. He can but doesn’t block, he fights passionately with the uncouth mind of a child who has NEVER kissed his wife (lol). UI is just one more example of his “accidental” genius or what some would call, “Combat adaptivity”.

0:00 to 4:30 was entirely animated and supervised by animator Ryo Onishi. From that point on, It's supervised by Yuya Takahashi. The iconic Goku transformation's KA was Hiroyuki Itai, Supervised by Koudai Watanabe. 8:59 After the CGI, Naoki Tate is the supervisor, with Takahito Katayama's Key Animation. You might recognize how much mr. Tate contorts and extends the limbs of characters when he animates. He was the guy that animated the infamous scene from DBS episode 5. Broly's Super Saiyan Transformation scene from 10:41 goes back to Ryo Onishi as KA/Supervisor. 11:24 onward goes back to Naoki Tate as supervisor. So yeah, a lot of the initial action in this film is heavy carried by Ryo Onishi. I ain't going to talk about Naotoshi Shida, cause the climax isn't apart of this video. Besides, Everybody knows who Noatoshi Shida is.
