Phantasialand is one of my favorite parks in the world. First went about 25 years ago and since then they've expanded ride offerings so much with Taron, Black Mamba, Talocan and Chiapaz. I do miss the Grand Canyon Bahn and Gebirgsbahn though, both were from Schwarzkopf. So sad they went down in the fire 2001, but we got River Quest in it's place, which is also an awesome ride.

News from Alton Towers. Dark forest is open!!! Th13teen has a really bad loading procedure as they have to put dummies on the black 3 rows (probably to do with weight and the drop) there is also an annoying fast pass queue that come in and take up 3 or 4 rows which means there are only 4-6 people actually getting on from the main queue for a ride that can usually hold 20 people leading to the queues being constantly over 100 mins long! I’m pretty sure they have given up on the half hour cleaning procedures the parks hours are now 9:30 to 6:00 and the only ride not open is Hex I think. Duel is open.

Phantasialand is my local park, i live about 30 minutes away by car and its just an incredible park. Theming wise and ride wise its almost unbeatable. They got a good line up for thrill seekers but also for family. And all the attractions blend in so well with the theming. I love the park and im always eager to go back after visiting.

Wow, impressed how much the park has developed- I visited here and Europa Park way back in circa 1993- just been to each the once, they have added so much since with some great ride and theme concepts- really need to get back to Germany post-covid and when I'm less poor :) Regarding the steampunk theme it's something that can be done well or badly and either way will be an acquired taste- some will like others less so as you say. Done well it can actually be quite beautiful and artistically creative. Regarding the front of the hotel I don't think you can judge it too harshly at the moment- it's pretty much just the canvas of the painting, I'm sure there's some more raised detail to be added, including similar to your zoom ins of the FLY area- any building probably would look a bit dull with just the wall parts before the detail's added, so again if it's being done well I think it will look a lot more impressive once it has the details and colour variations they'll add, for now it's just a brown box. Hopefully the design team have been smart with how to contrast this with the surface decor as it is a theme you could get wrong- it could end up ugly rather than beautiful if the design aesthetics are wrong, the clever thing about good steampunk design is that contrast of rusty industrial / unusual anachronistic tech / design and the more refined beauty of the decor/embellishments that can go with it- the two together can work really well but I do think you very much need to get it right so overall it looks good.

Were there the same day & did Mystery Castle in the morning with a fairly long cycle (agree the drops aren't intense). River Adventure queue was especially horrific in terms of social distancing when we eventually did it at end of the weekend!
