It's not so weird that opera and metal work together, when you think about it. They're both loud and bombastic and kinda extreme.

Fun fact: they actually had to change the design of the mask from the one in the poster because it kept muffling the lead actors mouth and nobody could understand him in rehearsals.

Likely because in the original novel Eric wore a full face mask, going by the description. Not exactly practical for singing. At the time the make up needed for what Eric was described as looking like in the book would not have been possible to do on the stage. This means you have two factors against the full face mask.

I really liked Malinda's agonized expression when she hit that final high note. It sold the idea that the Phantom was actually _wringing_ it out of Christine against her will. Seriously dark. I love it.

Great takeaway! I love seeing people analyze the subtle messages in expression with stuff like this. Singing is so much more then hitting the notes and I agree, these two did a great job of bringing the emotion across as well. :-)

Useless Trash I've been looking so long for you now you won't get away from my grasp. You've been living so long in hiding in hiding behind that false mask. And you know and I know that you ain't got long now to last. Your looks and your feelings are just the remains of your past. You're standing in the wings, there you wait for the curtain to fall. Knowing the terror and holding you have on us all. Yeah, I know that you're gonna scratch me, maim me and maul. You know I'm helpless from your mesmerising cat call. Keep your distance, walk away, don't take his bait. Don't you stray, don't fade away. Watch your step, he's out to get you, come what may. Don't you stray, from the narrow way. I'm running and hiding in my dreams you're always there. You're the Phantom of the Opera, you're the devil, you're just out to scare. You damaged my mind and my soul it just floats through the air. Haunt me, you taunt me, you torture me back at your lair.

@KazanaAoi
@KazanaAoi 5 жыл бұрын
Nope; You're hearing it right. They got it wrong in the video, sadly...Both said 'MY spirit and MY voice'; where it's supposed to be as you said; one says 'My-Your' the other says 'Your-My' They also missed an entire verse; "In all your fantasies, You always knew.." "That Man and Mystery.." "Were both in you." "And in this labyrinth, Where night is blind." "The phantom of the opera is there.. Inside my/your mind". It's a shame, Because I actually liked this version quite a bit, but all the inconsistencies and the missing bits really turn me off of it :(

William Harmon Although this is pretty cool, his voice is horrible for the phantom. The Phantom is a very kind-voiced Tenor. This guy has a very harsh baritone range. On that higher note, he went full falsetto. Not saying I don't like this, I do, but he does not have a good voice for the Phantom at all

There was something about this performance that makes it easily more enjoyable than others like Nightwish's version. The instrumentation and Malinda's voice definitely comes to mind. Malinda's voice extremely clean and she clearly has been trained, you can't belt like that at the end without some kind of vocal training. The voices also resonate extremely well. Something about Nightwish's version doesn't pack that same punch to me for some reason. Not to disrespect their music and their abilities as musicians. Taste also does play a part in this as well. So that might also be a factor.

I guess most of what I'm trying to say is that this one wins over Nightwish's version because Nightwish did a sloppy poor man's version of the song. If they slowed it down and actually went to the same tempo as well as gave it trained voices like the singers who originally sang it per example, then maybe I could see them being better but this one triumphed because it was technically and rhythmically accurate, and it had a lot more of a chilling feel than Nightwish's because what they had created was just a tryhard power metal version and making it simply something that it wasn't.
@anselme198
@anselme198 8 жыл бұрын
I agree that this version is more accurate and elaborate than Nighwish's version, but something in Tarja and Marco singing gives much power to the song, in my opinion, the strength of the Nightwish's version is mostly their ability to play it on live, where is never fails to give me goosebumps.
@MrEzuli
@MrEzuli 8 жыл бұрын
This is most likely down to taste, but IMO nightwish did it better. But thats mostly because I absolutly adore marcos voice. So sinistee without overdoing. And Tarjas voice is powerful enough, that they dont drown eachothers out. But opinions are opinions, this version is really good too! (Differences might be just stylechoises, but thats kinda of a mootpoint)

My theory is that the Opera Ghost really is a phantom of Christine's mind. She was schizophrenic, and he was the voice in her head telling her what to do, possibly including killing her rivals. Somehow that story makes more sense to me than having an actual man in a mask who lives behind a mirror (a MIRROR!) and has an underground boat. Plus it explains why Raoul didn't want to kill the Phantom when he met him. If he saw it was Christine actually acting as a madwoman, behaving as the Opera Ghost, he might have pity for her because he had loved her.

@@hannahdesouza4565 My sixth grade teacher made my class read the book and watch the movie when we finished. I really enjoyed the movie, but I agree about what you said about the book

In sleep, he sang to me In dreams, he came That voice which calls to me And speaks my name And do I dream again? For now, I find The phantom of the, opera is here Inside my mind Sing once again with me Our strange duet My power over you Grows stronger yet And though you turn from me To glance behind The phantom of the, opera is there Inside your mind Those who have seen your face Draw back in fear I am the mask you wear It's me they hear Your spirit and your voice In one combined The phantom of the, opera is there Inside your mind Is that the phantom of the opera? Beware the phantom of the opera

As a HUGE fan of Phantom, I absolutely love this! I saw it on Broadway in ‘91 and became a super fan. I know all the words and music. She did a great job with her vocal range. Just wow!

This was the first song I ever heard by Jonathan Young. I still, to this day, listen to this song on loop. At school, at home, while reading. It’s just so amazing.

Anyone who does a Phantom cover and wears the mask, always complains that it's terribly uncomfortable lol

Brittney123ish I wear a mask that's the full face of it. and it's like it's my real face. i completely disagree with anyone who says that lol. But I do need to get one that's cut.

Probably some super cheap mask, the cheaper they are, the less comfortable they can get. You probably have a good quality mask if it doesn't bother you or something. Could also be a persons general sensitive skin.
