That’s funny, 18 years later and I’m marching Cadets, with Phantom Regiment performing Harmonic Journey this year. Harmonic Journey will always be one of my all time favorites, and Cadets and Phantom will always be my favorite corps. I will say Phantom did this show justice in 2021 as well, especially for how short the season was. As a Cadet I am more than grateful for how our season turned out. I think it’s safe to say the Cadets and Phantom Regiment are back. And to a fellow Cadet, thank you so much for being such an inspiration. FHNSAB

The momentary silence at 7:19 and the complete dead stop at 7:30 is the most bone chilling and amazing thing I've ever heard from a drum corps. I miss when that was the style, compared to recent years where every big cutoff is filled with a cymbal freight train.

So many corps now don't write to silence. Silence is an excellent part of a composition; allowing the composer and performers to control the emotion and suspense of the audience.

Truly sublime. The soaring headiness of the music, combined with the expansive, vast, yet intimate conversation between ensemble and audience in the presence of blinding lights, and the flow state that makes it all go by so fast is matched by few things in the human experience. I was 14 when I heard this for the first time, just 2 years after it was performed. My section leader gave us all a mix-cd with this on it and I listened to it on the way back from a show with a similarly enthusiastic crowd, lights, the whole shebang. The out of body experience I got from this show was formative for me, and put my already intense love for the marching arts into overdrive. That was also the bus ride on which I got my first kiss. I was high as a kite on life. Holy fuck.

@@rjc3208 God the drum corps community is so toxic sometimes. Look, this is my favorite phantom show, and I will be performing with the ensemble in 2021, but it’s painful to me to see such an ignorant and close-minded take on the art form of drum corps. @burdrchitect16803 жыл бұрын
A video was just posted. Sounds good. But 2003 is just smooth. 2021 seems rushed with excitement. The percussion is too heavy in the writing and over powering the brass. It might be bc it was a standstill with micd up front ensemble being in front of the brass.
@dbznarutofanatic3 жыл бұрын
@@burdrchitect1680 To be fair at that point they were only moved in for barely 2 weeks, and the quality of the camera/environment they were playing in probably had a decent bit to do with the unbalanced sound as well. They sound pretty damn good considering the circumstances, and that drumline looks really young with a TON of potential. The perc writing is definitely much more involved/heavier than Rennick's book in '03, though I feel that has some to do with the style of drum corps morphing since then. At the end of the day though, reimagining a legendary show like Harmonic Journey will come with it's pros and cons (which are all subjective anyways).

@@burdrchitect1680 Considering the fact that they're practicing it in a non-competitive, very shortened season, they're doing phenomenally. Literally. Phantom hasn't had the same level of talent auditioning in recent years compared to back in the 2000's because of their drop in placements, yet the kids who made the cut of this years Hornline are catching up at an extremely fast pace that is truly unheard of. Every single person participating in this years rendition of Harmonic Journey is motivated to a point that no other corps member could possibly imagine. Having the opportunity to march something as critically acclaimed and beloved by the community as this show was is like a fever dream for a member of a drum corps, ESPECIALLY after DCI as a whole was stopped in its tracks by Covid-19.
