Phantom was consistently underscored during this era.

@@ianbaroni1137 Imo Phantom should at least have at least 5 chanpionships. '78, '89, '96, 06, and '08. I think arguments could also be made for '77, '79, and maybe '12.

Still my favorite show of all time - I still remember standing in the stands at the end and just being blown away. I miss this era of DCI...
@ChoirOfOne10 жыл бұрын
Actually, I've been attending DCI shows for over 20 years and have watched/listened to recordings going back even further. I'll happily admit that they played several of my favorite classical pieces here so I'm a bit biased, but I'll always remember how the crowd was on their feet long before it ended...
@guitarmansegovia12 жыл бұрын
This show definitely won me over because of how JD wrote the mello part, ESPECIALLY here in Firebird. I think the main reason they placed 4th that year is the simple fact that the pushed beyond the limits, but I guess they still had trouble. But you're right about the 2008 comeback. It shocked me following them the majority of the season, and I missed finals week. When I saw 2 weeks later that they won, I nearly lost it *in a good way*.
@jlj778910 жыл бұрын
Phantom is always underscored IMHO. They have stepped up their marching over the last 10-15 years, there percussion has seriously improved, their guard has become much more creative and a part of the package, not to mention execution is way up, and their brass has been the MEGA PLATINUM standard for the last 30 years. Whenever I hear something DCI that I think is amazing, I always find myself thinking, "Gee, I wonder how Phantom would sound playing it?". Their pitch is impeccable at any volume, and their articulation is second to none. Their dark tone is the DCI standard for a field sound. Lastly, it doesn't matter what genre music they play, they always make it sound drum corps. Someone who has never heard Stravinsky would never make a first guess that this was a symphonic work. Phantom music is drum corps music. It can tribute whatever it wants, but it is meant to be on the field and heard on the field...
@jaredpianoclark10 жыл бұрын
The reason they get underscored is their visual. The level of difficulty in their drill doesn't add up to the rest of their performance abilities. If they really want to grab another championship, they need to up their visual game, maybe even switch back to King horns, and drop the "story-telling" format that they've been milking since 2008, it's just become old-hat for them.
@cjlorenz349810 жыл бұрын
Jared Clark I personally like the story telling. Each corps has something that makes them different and that is what makes Phantom seperate from all the rest.
@Troumbadour10 жыл бұрын
Jared Clark Yes, definitely switch back to King horns, Jupiter just isn't the same. Please someone talk the people in charge at Phantom HQ to get back on the King's Court.
@razorthingaming608310 жыл бұрын
I love Phantom because they always seem to leave me amazed and thinking what just happened. Jared, you talked about dropping the story telling but I think it's what makes their shows sparkle. All the corps march without stories, but when there is a strong theme it makes the show enjoyable. Such as 2013 crown and 2007 crown. All though these shows don't always win, I can see my self watching them over and over again.
